We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamia Forrest and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamia, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Indianola ,MS which is located in the Mississippi Delta. Growing up in a rural and economically disadvantaged area ,we were taught to be hard working and to earn everything. I grew up in an authoritative household where I learned structure, and discipline. These things molded me into the woman I am today.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of Body Magic Beauty Bar and BabeShapes Body Sculpting located in Carrollton TX off Midway and Trinity Mills. I am excited about providing an experience of health, beauty and self care. I love helping people. I enjoy uplifting everyone I meet and making a difference in the someone else’s life. After relocating to Texas I realized opportunities were endless. Starting a business during unprecedented times I faced challenges due to the pandemic. Its allowed me to be resilient and persevere. I had to learn new ways of budgeting and prioritize. The lesson I learned during my business journey is having more than one stream of income is vital. I want the world to know that when you walk through the doors of Body Magic Beauty Bar you will leave with more than a service, you will leave with an EXPERIENCE!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The most fun places to go to for me would be: Spa Castle, True Kitchen, XOXO Dining Room, Lava Cantina, Greedys Sports Bar, Clutch Lounge, Pink Lounge, Daiquiri Shoppe, Open Mic at Green Elephant, Fabrication Yard Graffiti, Our Glass Restaurant, Harlowe MXM Rooftop Lounge, Rooftop Cinema Club.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my mentor/Soror Tamisha Wilson and my Epic Dance and Fitness Family located in Ridgeland MS! It all started there! Tamisha gave me the opportunity to teach HIIT and Twerk classes at her studio as a new entrepreneur. While there I learned a lot about health, wellness, fitness and different nontraditional exercising techniques. I also picked up another niche and became one of her beginner/intermediate pole instructors.
