We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thing that motivated me most to start a business was the fact that I really didn’t want to work for anyone else. I’ve been working since I was 17 years old right after I gave birth young. It took less than a few years to realize following someone else’s rules & schedules is not what I desired. Every time someone would ask me from the time I was young what I wanted to be I would always respond with an entrepreneur. I simply just wanted to own my own business. I didn’t know what I didn’t know how but that’s what I knew I wanted to do.

The inspiration for my business came about when I realize how much I enjoyed doing my nails. I’ve been doing my own nails for over a decade. Polishing, dip powder, acrylic, gel, press ons. You name it, I’ve been obsessed since I was a kid. As I got older I became really really good at designing and shaping my own nails to the point where people would ask me to do theirs. Of course with that being against TDLR guidelines I knew I had to hold a license which is exactly what I went after.

I recently graduated cosmetology school February of 2022 and I am so ready for everything this world has to offer me as a licensed cosmetologist and full blown entrepreneur/ business owner.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing that sets me apart from other nail artist is my level of creativity. Throughout school I was always a huge fan of art, so when possible I would elect it as an extra curricular activity. From doodling, to tracing, free handed drawing, & painting, I simply loved to create art and would say I was pretty good at it.
I love that now I’m able to implement both passions into one.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me a good day consist of plenty of vitamin D & sunlight! Which is a key for my workspace as well. I may step out for mimosas for brunch,

I’m a kid at heart, so any form of transportation aside from your typical bus/car wins my heart. We can bicycle, rollerblade, ride scooters, or hoverboards around the city parks.

Followed by a rooftop bar with the perfect r & b vibes while the sun sets.
& I may finish the night with a fun filled game night with loved ones.
This is what the ideal fun day sounds like for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really just want to give my parents a shoutout for being my biggest support system while I follow my dreams. They are my daily motivation to keep going aside from my son. There is a world filled with things, places, & people that they must see. & in order to make that happen I know I’ve got to make sure my finances are up to par.
