We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Mosley, LPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to help make the world a better place to live. I have had a plan for many years of my business being a hub for healing. A place for all people to come and find rest. In 2017, I soft launched my business but after having my first child, I slowed down to focus on being a new mommy. In 2020, I relaunched and have found great success! I was so scared initially- I was very anxious. I would think… can I do this, is this really possible for me, how do I do this? But I will say, “I get by with a little help from my friends.” My friends were already in business, they walked me through everything and held my hand virtually. They normalized all of my fears and trepidation and encouraged me to leap. I am normally the person championing everyone else, but in legitimizing my business, goals and dreams-fear tried to step in. But with accepting the help of colleagues and friends in the business, I found support needed to propel me forward. Now, I pay it forward and help others who may have questions about starting over, starting a business and overcoming the fear of doing what they have never done before.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is named Crossing Jordan, PLLC it is an empowerment center for those who want to live a full life. What sets us apart from others is that we are a place for restorative healing from past traumas that are known and unknown. On my journey, I have realized that everyone has stuff (personal conflicts), everyone has their own story of experiences- spoken or not that they will need to work through. I am most excited about helping women, men, couples and families have a place to do their work. I help people come to a level of awareness so they process life events and move forward instead of being stuck. I am the youngest of five children, the first to graduate with a bachelors and masters degree, my mother was always silently pushing me in the background to dare to be different and do what had not been done before. My grandmother was a domestic worker who cleaned homes and received rides home in the back of a truck with dogs while her boss and children set up front. I watched her get her GED while in her 60’s. She showed me the importance of pushing through no matter what. I have always had big dreams because I stand on the shoulder of women who have suffered and progressed in spite of the hand they were dealt and did it with dignity. My business is for people who want better and are willing to do what has never been done to change the path for their family lineage. It was not easy trusting that I can help create a place where people who want to do something different can learn tools to get better-to make a better home for those who come behind them. Along my journey of self discovery, I was talked about on every level. I have always been different, always wanted different, people did not always get my internal drive to be different because being different makes you an odd ball at times. But doing something different will stop the insanity of doing the same thing but expecting different results. Being different in a good way, will get YOU better for your life. When you choose to go against the grain there are people who want you to stay in line because it makes them feel better about their not choosing to change. Change is an uncomfortable journey that requires growth at a level that not everyone is willing to endure. I have learned that being a change maker is not for everyone, but my goal is to encourage those who have an inkling that they do not want to continue on the path that they are on, find a supportive community of believers. The people who want to challenge old beliefs and patterns will start by working with guides that will walk with you and help you get to the life/environment where you can breathe and find freedom! I want people to know that we all have fears but they do not have to be crippling to the point that you lose faith in your ability live a good life. Crossing Jordan is for the person that does not know how to get to the life that they desire but are willing to invest in themselves, do the work and learn to trust the process. Life will test you, more often, we react to life based off how we were taught to respond. In other words we react to life based off of what modeled before us. When the way that you react is not helping you to propel forward, you are stuck- repeating old behaviors, telling old stories, living in sadness/despair…these are a few ways to recognize that you may be operating out an old system of belief. To change what was modeled before you, you must upgrade your life model-through learning a new way. There is a way to hope and we want to help you cross over into a better place of being to live the life of your desire. We help people acknowledge the internal pain of the past and find inner peace through self exploration and self love! The life that you desire is just on the other side of your fear!  In the words of Les Brown, “It’s Possible.” Let’s walk together.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
All of my friends know I love, love Legacy West! When my besties come to the city we will have brunch at True Food Kitchen- get a nice Kale Aid and kale salad with blackened salmon oh and we start with the edamame dumplings. Next we will pop over to some of the luxury shops in the area and accessorize our life. Have to check out Edith’s Bistro for light eats and a beautiful vibe for girls to just hang out and be a lady, it has this pretty French backdrop with a wonderful feminine esthetic and it backs up to a cute boardwalk. We would drive through the STAR to pay homage to the Cowboys enjoy music and good vibes at the Marquee- really good sushi- and I always get ramen with the pork belly on the side…its just better that way. I hear the Concrete Cowboy is nice at night. One of the days we will go hiking in Plano Preserve its amazing get washed up, dressed nice to go to RH Rooftop restaurant- Get the truffle fries, lobster roll and charcuterie with a drink of choice!! it is so good…I also always finish with a chocolate chip cookie with vanilla gelato. I don’t like chocolate cookies but I eat them when I am there! We also visit Revelers Hall for an amazing atmosphere, great music and comfortable night life, one of the friendliest places to enjoy an evening out. We also would go to Paradiso and enjoy the outside area- drinks are decent but you have to just taste the menu here its an experience- oysters fully dressed, pastas and dessert is tasty. I love good food, friendly atmospheres and great music!! I and my friends will head to all the places that are kind, trendy and posh. And of course we have to go to Deep Ellum and enjoy live music at the Freeman Cafe and must go eat a huge slice of pizza at Serious Pizza- it will be a long fun night. The morning we will have a detox smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe and enjoy a local lake and relax for the day- later that evening we drive out to pick up some Spiral Diner- GET THE NACHOS and then try the menu- good vegan for your fast food cravings and Sunday we tune into the Potters House Dallas to reset and get ready for the upcoming week!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out a few people who have been contributors to my success, I will not name them all but I am grateful for their contribution to my journey. First I’d like to shout out, my husband and Crossing Jordan vision supporter Ryan Mosley, part owner of DFW’s own The Vision Lab Podcast. He propels me forward and I always say, “Love saved my life.” But guys, This shoutout is for my mother, Janie B. Harris who has always told me to, “Dare to be different.” When I was younger, I used to say to my self, what does it really mean to be different? I struggled with peculiarity and was often shunned in certain places for my differences. People would say, “You are so regal, you talk different, where do you come from or who do you think you are? My mother and father instilled confidence in me through sound teaching and modeling the way. I have found no perfect home, but my parents did what they could with what they had, and we had prayer to help guide us through. My mother used to pray over all of her children before we left the house each morning before school that we would be the head and not the tail, above and not below…and would ask that God keep all of her 5 children as the apple of his eye. I am proud youngest sibling of her 5 beautiful children. I consider myself blessed to do all that I have done this far and attribute much of my success to the prayers of my mother and sheer will and determination!
