Meet Sylvia | Salon Owner & Social Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sylvia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sylvia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance has changed a lot. When I first started my business over 27 years ago. I was single with no children. So I had time to work long hours and invest in the business. Things changed when I got married and had five children. I could no longer work long days. I needed to pick up my children from school and from their after school activities. Now this new phase in my life some of my children are growing up and leaving the nest. Which is allowing me to venture into new things.
What should our readers know about your business?
So I’ve been in the hair industry for over 27 years. I love interacting with my community and clients. I service people from all industries. What sets me apart from others is my spiritual and peaceful atmosphere. My speciality is assisting clients in growing out their natural and damaged hair. I also provide customers with one on one service. How did I get to the place I am today? Definitely my faith in God a lot of hard work. I had to realize everybody’s is not going to like me and that’s ok. Those who love my brand and what I stand for will come. The lessons I have learned over the years is to be myself! Stay true to the vision God has given you. What I want the world to know about me? That I choose joy over sadness. Me choosing joy doesn’t mean I don’t get discouraged sometimes. But I’m choosing to have faith that it’s going to get better. I want people to know I never gave up when I was faced with difficulty and tragedy. I continue to live my life in a place of peace, gratitude and thankfulness. It is my prayer when people encountered me they will leave encouraged, strengthened and inspired.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok if my best friend is visiting for the week. We’ll first need to go workout at Fit Body Family Bootcamp in McKinney, Texas. Motivational Mondays with Coach T. That’s how I start my day and week off. I absolutely love this place. They have an awesome team of coaches and I workout with some really amazing people. Then we’ll get a hot chocolate and large water at Starbucks. After that we’ll walk at Arbor Hills Lake Trail in Plano, Texas. On Tuesday we’ll do a little shopping at the Allen Outlet Mall. I love a good brunch place. So Wednesday we’ll go to Kitchen and Kocktails By Kevin Kelley located in downtown Dallas. So you know I’m going to order the southern fried chicken and butter pecan waffles. Delicious!! Then Thursday we need our spiritual connection. So we would attend life group at LCC. It’s Friday so we definitely need to chill at Legacy West and eat my favorite kale salad with grilled shrimp at North Italia and do some more shopping. Now it’s the weekend. I love to explore on the weekends. I’ll check to see if we have some fun events coming to the area. Everyone who knows me know I need to rest, reflect and reset. So me and the bestie will drive to the Prayer Mountain Trail in Dallas, Texas. Then go to Sunday Worship at Life Community Church Collin County in Plano, Texas. I love me some Legacy West! So we’ll go back there and end the weekend with food from Haywire. My favorite dish is the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Listen! I need to shout out my Pastors Chris and Sheila Walls and the members of Life Community Church Collin County. When I first arrived in the Dallas area. I was a little homesick. But LCC provided me with a community where I could do “Life and Church Together.” It took a little longer to build up my cliental here. But they gave me encouragement and spiritual mentorship. Which helped me to grow more spiritually and walk more in spiritual freedom and liberty! I love Joyce Meyer book “Healing the Soul of a Woman!” I’ve been on a healing journey. I believe when we allow God to heal the wounds of our soul. We can walk boldly into our God Purpose! So many people will be blessed from our story and us taking the time and doing the work of becoming a more healthier version of ourselves.
