We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial attitude, and I knew I would start my own business at some point in my life. After obtaining my degree in public health, it sparked my passion for educating and assisting people in facilitating mental and physical health practices. My love for health and wellness and helping others led me to turn this into a side hustle!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
SP health is different from other health and wellness brands because I am far from perfect, and I want to showcase that to my audience. I believe in showing all sides of this lifestyle, and not everyone is willing to show the challenges of opting to live a healthier lifestyle. It’s more than just an aesthetic. There are obstacles such as burnout, accessibility, and more. SP health still has a long way to go, but social media has made it somewhat easier to get my name out there while I am working on the website. This is a competitive niche, and plenty of people do what I do. Although it has been a challenge, this obstacle motivates me because I know my time is coming. I’ve learned that quality is better than quantity, and I much rather have a smaller community with a loyal following with the content and offerings I provide. I want the world to know that SP Health is about trusting the process to become the best version of yourself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad deserves credit for my love for health and wellness. As a child, I remember always being active and outside with him. I couldn’t tell you a time we were relaxing on the couch. We were always doing something to move our bodies. On top of physical health, he played a tremendous role in my outlook on nutrition. He taught me at a young age that what you consume is essential to how you feel and to be mindful of what ingredients and products you put in your body. At the time, I was like, ” OK, dad, just let me have this Twix bar and fruit snacks,” but now I understand how nutrition can contribute to particular concerns, i.e., gut issues, eczema, acne, and more.
