We had the good fortune of connecting with Svitlana Vasylenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Svitlana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, it started with motherhood. When I became a mom, my world shifted — but so did my creativity. I realized I wanted to build something that allowed me to be fully present for my kids and still have a voice, a purpose, and a creative outlet that was mine. I wanted to show my daughters that it’s possible to chase your dreams, even while chasing toddlers around the house!

I started sharing little moments online — motherhood, wellness, fashion, and all the chaos and beauty in between — and slowly, that turned into a brand. @unicorns_and_mommy was born from the idea that moms can be magical too. We don’t have to choose between being present for our families and building something powerful for ourselves.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is that I don’t just create content — I live it. I’m not trying to paint a perfect picture of motherhood or success. I’m showing the messy mornings, the mid-workout diaper changes, the creative chaos, and the deep love that fuels it all. I think people connect with that. I bring authenticity, warmth, and a sense of humor to everything I do, and I genuinely care about the community I’ve built.

I’m most proud of the fact that I didn’t give up when it was hard — and there were many moments when it was hard. I didn’t have a roadmap. I built this brand one post, one collaboration, one lesson at a time — during nap times, late nights, and early mornings. And I’m still building.

Professionally, I got here through a lot of trial and error, a lot of saying yes before I felt ready, and a whole lot of learning on the go. I learned how to pitch myself, how to stay true to my voice, how to turn my everyday life into valuable content, and how to keep showing up even when the numbers didn’t reflect the effort.

It wasn’t easy. Some days felt discouraging — like no one was watching or engaging. But I reminded myself why I started: to inspire, to connect, and to create something meaningful while raising my daughters.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned? No one will believe in your dream like you do — so you have to be your own biggest cheerleader. Stay consistent, stay curious, and trust that the magic happens when you stop chasing perfection and start being you.

What I want the world to know is that Unicorns and Mommy isn’t just a cute name — it’s a reminder that motherhood is powerful, and women are capable of building something magical out of the most ordinary days. I’m proof that you can be a full-time mom and a full-time creator, dreamer, and entrepreneur.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: Brunch + Local Vibes
We’d kick off at Bread Winners in Uptown for the fluffiest French toast and coffee (because, priorities). After that, a stroll through Klyde Warren Park — maybe grab a snack from the food trucks, or let the kids run wild while we chat on a picnic blanket.

Day 2: Shopping + Style Inspo
We’d head to Highland Park Village for some fashion inspo and luxury window shopping (and maybe a latte from Bird Bakery). Then we’d swing by NorthPark Center — not just for shopping but also for the art. Dinner at Honor Bar — yes, the burger is that good.

Day 3: Museum Day (but make it chic)
Morning at the Dallas Museum of Art, followed by a little visit to the Perot Museum if kids are with us (they love it). Afternoon tea or cocktails at Thompson Hotel’s Catbird — rooftop views and a stylish vibe.

Day 4: Frisco & Family Fun
We’d venture up to Frisco — brunch at Up Inspired Kitchen, visit The Star (if we’re lucky, catch a Cowboys practice), then hang out at Kidzania or Play Street Museum for the kids. Quick stop at Sprinkles or Crumbl for a cookie fix.

Day 5: Self-care + Sunset Vibes
Spa day at Hiatus Spa + Retreat in Inwood Village (we earned it). Then golden hour at White Rock Lake — it’s stunning and peaceful, perfect for a walk and a few dreamy photos.

Day 6: Fort Worth Twist
Day trip to Fort Worth Stockyards — live music, cowboy boots, and longhorns (you have to see them once). Grab lunch at Joe T. Garcia’s — it’s a classic. If we’re feeling extra, we’ll dress the part and make it a Western-themed photo shoot!

Day 7: Sunday Reset
We’d finish with a cozy brunch at Sixty Vines, then stop at Foxtrot Market for fancy snacks and iced matchas. If the weather’s nice, I’d bring us to The Arboretum or even just have a backyard BBQ with my family — because that’s the heart of it all.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Who is behind your success?
First and foremost — me. I’ve worked incredibly hard to get where I am, and I’m proud of the consistency, creativity, and resilience I’ve brought to building my brand. But I’m definitely not doing it alone.

My husband has been my rock. He supports my wild ideas, helps behind the scenes, cheers me on through the highs and lows, and reminds me of my worth when I start to doubt myself. His belief in me has meant more than I can ever explain.

And of course — my biggest inspiration: my kids. They are the reason I started this journey in the first place. Watching them grow, dream, and discover who they are inspires me to keep pushing forward. I want them to see that their mom built something meaningful — something full of love, purpose, and courage.

My success is a team effort — rooted in passion, supported by love, and fueled by little feet running through the house and big dreams in my heart.
