We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, what do you attribute your success to?
The Humane Society of North Tx has support through donors, grants and volunteers which allows us to think open mindedly about the care and future of the Equine we are able to rescue.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud that in the last two and a half years through our positions at the Humane Society both my wife (Head Trainer) and myself have been directly involved in getting 179 horses adopted to their forever homes. More importantly we have become a voice for the companion horse. a horse that no longer can be rode or is not ridable by celebrating each horses’ unique gifts.
Here at Humane Society of North Tx we focus on connection work, building trust with the human and the horse first to prepare them to be successful in their forever homes. Allowing the horses the time it takes though kindness and consistency sets us apart.
I believe we have gotten to where we are today by never giving up in a very difficult equine industry. Taking multiple leaps of faith. We moved our family across the country multiple times to end up in the situation we are in now.
The journey has not been easy, but we know how blessed we are. When you go through the cancer journey that we did and come out the other side with more knowledge to continue to help people through the horses has been a true blessing. The daily interaction with the horses has been one of the main factors that has kept up moving forward chasing our dream. Also, with two young kids there is never any options to stop moving forward.
Lessons we have learned. Everything changes with time. Don’t ever worry about what people think. Just try to do what you believe is right every day. Mistakes will be made but if for the right reasons should just be a lesson to the next positive outcome.
We have a saying “One hoof, one step, one ride at a time”.
Our common goal everyday is to help as many horses in need because we know how much beaty they can bring to the human.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We just recently stopped in Wimberley, Texas and spent some time in the hill country. Cruising the back roads, hiking in the state parks and trying out some of the world’s best BBQ joints sounds pretty fun to me.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Every one of the thousands of horses that have touched our lives. The horses helped us battle through Amanda’s Breast Cancer journey which led to us wanting to fight for horses. Horses have inspired us to stay in the moment, be resilient and believe in a little magic.
