We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Gandolfi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steve, what do you attribute your success to?
I always believe in myself, listen to other people and never stop learning.
I digest the advice I receive & really think about it. I take the bits I feel I should and disregard the bits I don’t.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
All I really do is join pieces of sound and picture together.
It’s a simple premise, but it takes awhile to learn. Some people are born with it and some people are not. I’m afraid I was one of those people that was not born with it. I have had to work hard all my life to get better at editing.
I try not to work extreme hours, but I go back and repeat my process day after day, until I’m happy to show my work.
And the world has honored me with so many awards, which I don’t really understand why, but I’m deeply grateful and humbled by it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I came to Los Angeles when I was 16 and decided that one day I would live here.
The city has a special place in my heart. The beach, the places I exercise, my martial arts dojos and the gyms I train at.
The beach has always been a resetting place for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s one person that has shaped my career over the last few decades: Daniel Kleinman.
He started out as a musician and then switched over to film making. He is a phenomenal director.
I have learned so much from him by standing beside him, watching closely and absorbing his actions.
