We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Behind the success of my brand is community. I have the most supportive and talented friends that have generously shared their talents to help Flair Goods to grow. I feel pretty lucky to know some really incredible people. I feel very supported by the Dallas community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Work and career have been an interesting mix of purposeful alignments and some happy little happstanences. I have been an educator for almost 10yrs on and off and I’ve been really lucky to be one of those people that actually likes their job. (I teach art) haha I left education for a little while and began to acquire some new skills doing some digital marketing and was super surprised that many of the skills I’d honed teaching were more than applicable to the marketing world and then some. I started by writing blogs for a startup marketing company and getting to know a little bit about how SEO works, I then began curating and creating content specific to the individual audiences that my clients serve and from there I also got a few certifications with Facebook Blueprint to run targeted ads for our clients. Working for a start-up gave me a crash course in branding, creating sales funnels, being a liaison between web developers and clients, drumming up our own PR and networking, strategizing/running social media accounts and gaining an overall understanding about how to eventually run and grow my own business. During the beginning stages of our COVID lockdowns I started a moodboard account that eventually received some branding and became Flair Goods. Now you can shop Flair Goods on Urban Outfitters, at Sept Studios, and (fingers crossed) more places by then end of summer!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh I like this question. For starters I’d want to find out what their comfort level with being in public spaces is/was and that would determine a few things. Hypothetically though, I would want to expose them to some local art. The talent in this city is pretty incredible. I feel like our artists in the city have been this best kept secret for far too long. We would start with local art, then move to a patio somewhere- maybe walk around Bishop arts a bit and enjoy the neighborhood, then later that evening maybe dinner at a few new faves like Monarch and cocktails at Catbird, the Virgin hotel, or Drake’s. Those places are always a good time and I’m always down to listen to great DJ’s like Anna Rizkalla, Christy Ray, Sober, Jason B, or Picnic. Always playing good tunes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out EVERY single person that I’ve had the privilege of working with in the past year and a half. From the badass photographers, amazing hair and makeup artists, incredible stylists, super generous studio owners, the modeling agencies that have allowed me to test shoot fun concepts, the dallas based designers that allow me to shoot their hand stitched designs, to the gorgeous model muses and anyone who has lent their time, energy, and years of expertise to help my vision for Flair Goods to come into fruition. To my beautiful and talented friends, you know who you are, thank you. Your ongoing support is appreciated more than you know!
