We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Guyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In all honesty I had no intention of starting my own business originally. My first years being a teacher I found myself picking up a camera (which I had no idea how to use) and capturing the personalities of the kids in my class. Come to find out, one of my parents owned an advertising agency and he told me I had an eye for photography. I told him thank you and didn’t think much of it. At the end of the school year he handed me a gift card for a photo store and said go start your business. It has taken me many years to believe that I am even capable of running a business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This all started based on a the idea that if you look close enough life is still simple. Thus how I came up with the name for my business. I Have never been the sit and stay photographer, I will forever be the let’s see what back there, what if we go under there, let’s make our own path, can I climb that? Scrolling through my pictures I want everyones different qualities to be apparent. I pride myself on spending time getting to know people, making people feel relaxed, and also telling them terribly cheesy jokes. I am also a mom myself, so volunteering to photograph sports, and events so a parent can’t watch and be in that moment will forever be something I’m proud of.
People often ask do you think you would be able to do this? An a lot of the time I have never done it but say sure lets try it! This was the hardest lesson I had to learn. The only way to improve and grow is to step outside your comfort zone and take a risk. Im thankful I have had so many people believing in me because I didn’t for a long time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so many amazingly unique places that make our town special. Have to start at Bevs (because she is the best), get your gas, or snacks. Head to pick up your kid from Dance class at Centerstage, pick up what I ordered from our local boutiques Rusted Ivy, Rivers Rustic design, grab my bracelet from Spirit stacks and head to Roadies for great food, and end with a sno cone at Krazy Cones. There are so many great people who are behind all of these businesses and that’s what makes supporting them easy and fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that come to mind when it comes to any success I have had. This business is based on the people who believed (and continue to believe) in me when I didn’t. First and foremost I have an amazingly supportive husband Tj Guyer who works tirelessly and steps up to help me whenever he can. An I was given a family that was always the epitome of support. However the continued success definitely comes from the people and business owners of my small town. It is a rare thing to find so many people whose ultimate goal is to support the community and shop local. When Im at an event taking pictures they take care of my kids, parents will bring me food, our booster clubs give me spirit wear, and most importantly they let me be part of so many important moments in their lives.
I also can’t go much further without mentioning my right hand everything Kelly Jackson with Rusted Ivy. She is the Ethel to my Lucy, I can show up and say I have an idea and she says ok lets do it.
I have an amazing village and when everyones is goal is to put out good, great things can be created!
