We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Barrans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always been drawn to art ever since I was a kid, and while in High School I was given my first point and shoot and fell in love with taking photos of nature around the neighborhood. When it came time to choose my degree path for college there was no doubt that I wanted to pursue photography as my degree and started researching photo classes that were supposed to be offered at the college I went to.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a wide spectrum of stuff as time goes on but, I will always come back to photography as my favorite because I can be creative and come up with ways to portray art that I can only dream of being able to portray with a pencil, such as my fantasy inspired shots like fairies. When I’m not working on photography I will focus on other art as well to keep me busy in my downtime that I sell on occasion at local markets in town as one of a kind pieces. My two favorite things to make that I have picked up are dreamcatchers and resin pieces. They are fun to make and see the outcome of something I made physically. Where I am today is still not where I would like to be but it is still a work in progress. It has taken many years of experience and trial and errors of all kinds to get where I am today.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly I try to stay away from the city as much as possible unless there is a museum or an attraction that sounds fun to visit. My go to is to go float the river to relax and get away from everything, followed by coming back to make some snack food such as nachos, or bbq, and follow it up with card games and board games.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to give a shout out to my Fine Art Teachers from college that weren’t my photo teachers. They knew my degree was in photography but they still encouraged my other artistic abilities such as drawing even though I am terrible at drawing in my opinion. They would work with me on ideas and give me support when I was critical of my own work.
