We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey-Leigh Cloete and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey-Leigh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a little kid, I saw my dad building a life for his family through his own company, and I knew I wanted to follow in his footsteps one day. During my childhood, I created and ran my own company in Johannesburg, South Africa. Skip forward to now, and living in the States, I didn’t feel accomplished in my career path and decided I needed to go back to what brought me great joy and happiness, which was owning and operating my own company. Thus, Brighter Smiles Teeth Whitening was born. I knew I wanted something that combined my love of marketing, the beauty industry, and the medical field all into one. I found laser teeth whitening to be the perfect combination.
What should our readers know about your business?
When it comes to many companies nowadays, their focus is What (is the need), How (do we fulfil it), and Why (do we exist). For me, the most important thing is the Why, then the How and then lastly the What. I started my company because (Why) I want to build people’s confidence by enhancing their natural beauty and their smile. I love how a simple treatment such as laser teeth whitening can brighten a client’s face and change their entire perspective of themselves. Some of my greatest struggles were in turn from building a greater social media following to converting followers into clients and filling up my schedule. For a time, this became my major focus, and I needed to take a step back and remind myself why I started my company. That reason is the heart and soul of my company and what is most important to me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For eating out I would go to places that remind me of where I grew up. Fish & Fizz is a traditional British fish and chips which reminds me of the fish and chips I would get growing up as a kid in South Africa. I also love Lekka because they serve toasted chicken mayo sarmies which is one of my favourites to eat. Walking along the Trinity River in Turtle Creek and watching the baby turtles swim around and have a picnic on the bank is such a peaceful way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. The Bishop Arts District is a lovely place to view some modern art and sculptures and makes for some magnificent pictures!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My two biggest supporters prior to meeting my mentor are my husband Jeff, and my youngest sister, Courtney. My husband has constantly supported me through my training, building my business, helping me renovate my salon space, practising/training with new teeth whitening techniques on him and constantly giving me new marketing ideas. My sister is always willing to be a teeth whitening model for marketing content, make entertaining reels for my followers and clients to watch, and always is keeping me up to date with what is trending in the social platform world, especially TikTok. Allie, my mentor, is the biggest rock when it comes to keeping me focused on how to grow my business and ensuring I constantly love what I do. She started out as just a mentor to me but has become family to us. She is always there when I need her and ensures she asks how my family and I are doing before discussing how she can help me succeed. To her, growing my business is important, but what is more important is personal growth and development and I’m grateful I get to be her protégé.
