We had the good fortune of connecting with Spence Didd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spence, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say a team and a little risk taking. Understanding that you need a team to make it in the creative business, One person can only do so much. Allowing others to take on roles and responsibilities in the branding phase was probably the hardest part for me because it left me vulnerable and uncomfortable. But in order to grow you have to get out of your comfort zone and take risks. A team allows you to help build a strong foundation in which you can work and operate in. 🙏🏾
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always had a passion for art as long as i could remember, and i believe my culture plays a major role in that, I was born in Haiti but raised in Florida for majority of my life. As a First generation kid i got the best of both worlds. At home my parents only spoke creole to me and made sure i never forgot my roots, and when i went to school or out the house i would only speak English. Being a dual speaker allowed me to explore and tap in to different demographics. I officially created the StillAFool brand in 2014 my first year in college. It all started from a song that i was recording and mixing for myself. I’ve always been around music from growing up in the church to eventually growing up and building my own sound that is slowly beginning to catch the attention of many..But I had no idea what i was doing at the time, i just knew college wasn’t for me and that one day i was gonna be my own boss. I faced a lot of challenges while trying to build a brand from mismanagement of funds to, wasted merchandise & opportunities potential lawsuits with the MLB, bad business etc. Everything I’ve learned from my creative journey has been through trial and error. I’ve never had a mentor to guide me or anything, I’ve just kept going. But it wasn’t until i got a team, that’s when everything changed
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area for a week long trip i would definitely take them to Ybor City & Truth lounge for the night life. Downtown Tampa for attractions and historic sites and to eat we going to MOM’s Haitian restaurant by USF area. Tom Brady just moved out here and the rest of the buccaneers like to hang by the stadium and west shore area so we’d definitely have to stop by there as well lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my parents for helping me become the man that i am today. Without them i have no story 🙏🏾🇭🇹 #Ayiti
