We had the good fortune of connecting with Soukthavone Phoudindong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Soukthavone, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision for me was leaving my corporate job. Jumping from a job security to being your own boss is pretty scary. Taking chances and making sacrifices was never in my book until now. I believe timing is right and so I took a leap of faith.

What should our readers know about your business?

Hi, my name is Soukthavone but a lot of people know me by Souk. I am the owner of Sabaidee Sweets. We are a small owned family business. Our small business launched in February of 2022 offering our number one seller which is the Mochi Donuts and then we have our Churro Cheesecake and Banana Pudding. I had always loved making desserts but had never thought it would had been something I would create into a business.

It all started two years ago when the idea was brought up about learning how to make Mochi Donuts. During that time we didn’t have any Mochi Donuts shops here locally in the Fort Worth area. Everyone had to drive out to Dallas just to get some Mochi Donuts. We didn’t jump on the idea of becoming a business owner right away because we just had our daughter plus we were in the process of building our first home. After we were finally settled in I’ve decided to give my business a try January of this year not thinking it would take off this fast into something big.

My most difficult and challenging dessert were the Mochi Donuts. It took a lot of research and many sleepless nights. Just trying to perfect the taste and texture of the pastry took a lot of hard work. Mochi donuts, also known as poi mochi, are a fusion pastry crossing traditional American doughnuts and Japanese mochi. The mochi donuts, “hybrid batter makes for a doughnut that is fluffy and moist, with a satisfying chew”.

What sets us apart from others is that we are known for our fresh Mochi donuts. We mix our batter, fried and dipped into our Asian inspired glazes on site for our customers. We first had started taking pre-orders from our ghost kitchen and then just been focused on working booth events until we were able to open up our food truck to the public.

The most proudest is seeing how far we have come in a short amount of time. We had launched our business in February, had our first pop up in March, ordered our first customized food truck in July. While waiting on our food truck to be built we did as many booth events as possible just to get our name out there so people can know who we are and what we have to offer. We just love hearing feedback from our customers and watching their faces light up after taking bites out of our desserts. We are so excited to announce that our food truck is now open! We are proud to be the first mobile owners of Mochi donuts.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot is the Reunion Tower in Dallas. Reunion Tower is a 561 ft observation tower in Dallas, Texas and one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Located at 300 Reunion Boulevard in the Reunion district of downtown Dallas, the tower is part of the Hyatt Regency Hotel complex and is the city’s 15th tallest building. The Cloud 9 is accessible from the observation deck, serving a 360-degree view from behind glass while the floor slowly spins. Great tourist spot to see the city from the top!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

This part of my interview I would like to dedicate it to two people.

The first person is a friend that is very dear to my heart. I love and respect him as an older brother. His name is Xayen Chant the owner of Asian Nights Lao-Thai Cuisine and Bar. The love, support and guidance that he had given towards my small business has been so awesome! We are very blessed to know him and having that successful business owner background. All he want is to see my husband and I become a successful business owner with nothing in return. He has a heart of gold. He just loves giving back to others.

The second person is my husband. Without his support there would be no Sabaidee Sweets. He is the back bone of our business. He works so hard to bring us to where are at now.
