We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Pelayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind Suddenly Creations is God. I pray over every commission piece that I receive. I know that’s why I am able to bring my costumers vision to life. It’s seriously such a blessing being able to GET to do what I do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What makes me stand out is my passion for painting, which I consider as worship and a way to bond with others. Since intermediate school, I have been harnessing my emotions through drawing and painting, as advised by my school counselor. In high school, I discovered my potential and explored various media, with Acrylics being my favorite. Although it’s not always smooth, I either learn from my mistakes or trust the process. I am eager to take on new projects, communicate effectively, and ensure that my commission pieces are infused with prayer and positivity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends are visiting DFW, Nehemiah’s coffee shop in Arlington is a must-visit. The atmosphere and location are fantastic, and the upstairs area provides a quiet work or reading space. Their ice matcha latte is highly recommended, among the best I’ve tried, besides Ampersand’s Strawberry Fields blended matcha drink. For a kid-friendly location, Journey Dome in Watauga offers interactive Bible-themed exhibits and a play area with a large Noah’s ark. Cidercade is another great spot for unlimited arcade games and delicious pizza. It’s an excellent place for friends and family to engage in healthy competition.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh my, well for starters I have a great support system. I have so many people I can give credit too. Of course God because painting is a gift that he blessed me with so I thank him everyday before I start any projects. Three other people would be my mom. Reyna Morris owner of Create in Her a nonprofit and Kassandra owner of Freedom Ministry. These 3 women have spoken life into me and have given me advice over the years.
