Meet Soniqua Adaway | Baker & Owner /CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Soniqua Adaway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Soniqua, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My grandmothers taught me how to bake when I was younger. Through college I used those skills to help support my sorority Zeta Phi Beta sorority Inc with bake sales. A lot of my friends actually loved my sweets and would tell me these cookies would sell like crazy. So over the pandemic I started to thinking about the obvious. I wanted to start my own business but what should it be and what should I do ? What should I sell? Funny thing I was making cakes , cookies etc. Using my family for taste tester. The answer was clear. I knew I couldn’t do it alone. So, I hired the best team I know my family. My mother Ruby , little cousin and my nieces. Together we made Sweet Baby TreatZ . The name comes from my nickname Sweet baby that my uncle gave me when I was younger. Sweet baby TreatZ is not just for me but also for my family.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sweet Baby TreatZ is not your average treat business. Its the reaction and the feeling you get when you try one of our treats. I love seeing a new family member try our cookies. When you eat the sweets you’re no longer a customer , your family. I am excited for the new features coming to Sweet Baby TreatZ. Our new frozen cookie dough is dropping this summer along with our edible cookie dough. The new apparel line is dropping soon as well with some special additons. I am so proud of the fact that I am seeing the youth in my family are inspired to be their own boss. Starting Boss Queens Brunch where we are a collective of Queens who have different business and come together and collaborate to create and inspire each other to push each other to our full potential. It was not easy. The idea maybe but the execution thats a mission in itself. The process is worth it. I keep creating ideas. Getting back in the lab and creating new sweets. Coming up with new designs for graphics. I just kept pushing myself because my motivation is my family and I would do anything to make sure I can provide for my family.

I have learned many lessons along this journey and will continue to learn. Some people are for and against you , find out who they are quickly. Your business requires a sacrifice. Sometimes you have to give more time and money to launch the business. Never back down from your passion. If this business is your passion, you better fight for it.

I want the world to know that Sweet Baby TreatZ is not your average treats business. We create memories and reactions but most of when you leave you’ll be back before you know it .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So You want to know my favorite places in Dallas…. I have to warn you it might have you coming back!!!

So for breakfast … In my case brunch

We are late for breakfast but luckily it brunch time we heading to Soirée Coffee Bar for the best brunch you would ever have. The menu varies and you can try different dishes every-time. I recommend the “Fix my crow” for a good cocktail but if your in the mood for coffee their coffee is amazing

Waffle House is SPECIAL place to me if I take you there we are forever friends – What do you order? The All Star special – gets a taste of everything they have to offer. Make sure to get some sweet tea.

Adventure

After brunch we must take pictures of our outfits and its a nice down outside as well. We head outside of Hero by the American Airlines Arena. Beautiful colors and retail just a step away. Give me your best pose !!

Dinner –

We are headed to the Bishop Arts district for tacos …. if its not Fuel city or La Paisanita tacos then why bother .

Seafood Boil is a must …. You only have two options

Boiling Crab – You have to arrive early , its worth the wait

Crab Station- Amazing get the Arctic Sack for crab legs, potatoes , shrimp etc.

I love being around creative and funny people. I really enjoy have fun on a party bus singing karaoke. Starting Boss Queen Brunch because I seen how all of my friends starting their own business and starting from the foundation. It gives us a chance to catch up handle business first and relax later.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my Mother Ruby, mom you have done so much for me and I thank you so much. This next one needs no introduction ,My best-friend Briana Hogg soon to be Dr.Hogg this Fall. When I tell you she has really helped push me and motivate me in ever aspect of life after grieving the lost of my father who was my first best-friend, I asked God to give me my true friends and not even like we separated for some years. We picked up were we left off. Briana has her own business BHP ( Boss Hogg Productions) were she helps local small business gain the attention of the community by marketing and hosting events. My Uncles Andre and Jerome. My uncle Jerome for helping me with designing my logo and helping building my apparel. My uncle Andre for being a driving force for motivation. Lastly my angels, Granda Effie, Madea, Grandma Maggie , Grandma Mattie , Grandma Linda and Cedric Adaway (my father) , Even though they are no long physically here their presence has been know.
