We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started this business because I saw a real need for professional, high-quality cleaning that people could actually trust. Families were overwhelmed, homes were being neglected, and I kept hearing the same story from friends and neighbors. They didn’t just want help with the mess, they wanted peace of mind. I already had years of hands-on experience, so I knew how to deliver that level of service. But I also wanted to create something bigger than just a cleaning job. I wanted to build a company where women, especially other Latina women like me, could feel respected, supported, and proud of the work they do. Sparkly Maid Austin was my way of bringing that all together.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run Sparkly Maid Austin, a locally owned and Latina-owned cleaning company that’s proud to provide gainful employment to hardworking Latina women across the city. We specialize in premium home cleanings, and we’re trusted by thousands of Austin families. With over 1,200 five-star reviews on Google, we’ve become the most trusted and highest-rated cleaning company in the area. That didn’t happen overnight.

Building this business took grit. I started small and learned everything the hard way. There were moments of doubt, but I kept showing up, listening to my clients, and doing the work the right way. What makes us different is our consistency, attention to detail, and how much we truly care about each home. At Sparkly Maid Austin, we don’t cut corners. We show up with pride, and we clean like it’s our own home.

I want people to know that we built this from the ground up with honesty and care. Our mission is to deliver clean, healthy homes and empower the women behind the work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend came to visit Austin for the week, I’d keep it simple and local. We’d start with coffee at Desnudo, then head to Lady Bird Lake for a walk or paddle. Lunch could be tacos from Veracruz or something from Bouldin Creek Café. We’d spend an afternoon at Barton Springs or hang out at Zilker Park. In the evenings, we might grab pizza at Home Slice, see some live music at The Continental Club, or have a laid-back dinner at Suerte.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who’ve helped shape my journey, but if I had to give a shoutout, it would go to my mom. She’s the reason I work the way I do. Watching her hustle, clean homes, and still show up for her family taught me what real strength looks like. I also want to recognize the women who’ve worked with me since the early days of Sparkly Maid Austin. They believed in what we were building when we didn’t have much to show yet. And I have to thank our clients, especially those first few who gave us a shot and stuck with us. Their support and word-of-mouth referrals were everything. This business is built on trust, and I’ve been lucky to have people who believed in me long before things were polished.
