We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Simone, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Anything that relaxes my mind, grounds my soul, inspires life, and challenges me to be better. Going on early morning hikes to watch the animals run through their morning routine. Bike riding around the city. A cup of tea and a good book or TV show. Snuggling with my cats all day. Going on travel adventures with those close to me and meeting new friends along the way. Cooking a colorful meal from scratch. Being in the ultimate creative zone!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a moody writer. I write what I feel, and usually it’s when I’m depressed, anxious, lost. Over the last 11 years my songs have evolved quite a bit. I think I finally found a mood that I want to lean into with my future sound. Which I’m pretty excited to share when it’s ready! Up until now, it hasn’t been the easiest journey, but it’s definitely been the most fun! Throughout my journey I’ve fought through anxiety, depression, my own self, trying to find a balance in everything. I quickly realized I need to take a lot of time to myself to process, write, and create. So I’m alone a lot. In-between performing full time and writing, the rest of my time is usually spent planning, researching, learning, and trying to find ways to build my career. I give my self small goals and one big goal to keep myself on track. Surprisingly the big goal hasn’t changed since I began. There’s so much that goes into all of this, and it’s really the coolest feeling watching what you love to do become something you get to do forever and being able to live on top of that. I try not to get caught up in work mode 24/7, even though that’s what a career needs in the baby stages. To balance everything out I’ve been finding other ways to be creative outside of music. Especially during times like 2020 when you don’t really know what’s guaranteed until it happens.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Eagle Mountain Park for a little hike. Bike ride along the Trinity River. Eat all the Vegan food – Spiral Diner, V-Eats, The Healthy Hippie to name a few. Explore some coffee shops for an morning/afternoon pick me up – Avoca Coffee, Crude Craft Coffee Bar, Arcadia, Craftwork. Explore the different historic streets and museums around town to learn about the city around us. For lunch/dinner – perhaps some Vietnamese food from Four Sisters, Thai from Spice, or Blue Sushi. Magnolia Motor Lounge, MASS, and Shipping & Receiving for live music. To chill, have a few drinks, play some darts, Malone’s Pub, Boiled Owl, MASS. Thompsons if your feeling fancy. Venture out to Dallas on the DART and see what more we can find! During a pandemic, for sure visit all of the parks to hike, bike, swim, and picnic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh man, there are SO many amazing humans that have been helping me along the way! My Brother, Dad, and Mom have had my back through it all. Rowdy for loving me and believing in everything I do. My friends and Fans for always finding ways to support me. Matthew for helping me broaden my venue territory, keeping me updated on musical things, and keeping me pumped! Doug Rhone, Tim Phelan & Brendan Gilman (and so many other talented musicians) for making my recordings sound better than I could have ever imagined! Josh West (JBAW Productions) for helping me make a super music video! All the venues that have booked me for gigs! All the sites, magazines, radio stations that have kindly featured me. Everyone who has passed my music along, come out to shows, invited me to Gig with them, helped me carry my gear, helped me fund my music, I could go on! Thank you so much for your continued love and support for 11 years and counting.
