Meet Shon Weathers | Rapper, Singer, Songwriter and then some.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shon Weathers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think of risk as how bad do you want it? There’s a lot of sacrifices that are made as an artist. Theres a lot of tough decisions regarding finances, people, time, what your next move is and so on. The weird thing is most of the time I don’t think people realize how many risks they’ve taken or are currently taking to manifest their desires. It’s easy to see the big risk. But it’s really the small ones that count. The more small risks you take, the easier those “big risks” become.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As cliche as it may sound what separates me is the fact that I’m me. No one else does what I do. No one can share the same perspective or have the same ear or same type of creativity when it comes to crafting. I admire plenty of other artists and a lot of them inspire me but I know I could never be someone else. I could mimic but I could not BE. And what I’m most proud of is the fact that the sound I have curated for myself is continuing to improve and grow and expand and it’s MY sound.
It was not easy getting to this place I am in particular but it’s definitely been fun. You hear it all the time, it’s a process. If you don’t fall in love with the process, the ups and downs, you won’t make it over whatever obstacles may pop up. And trust we’ve had to step over a lot of obstacles, and still have a long way to go. But if you don’t find a true love or passion for what it is you’re doing you won’t make it through. And there’s no better feeling than seeing everything come together for you after working so hard on something.
That’s what a lot of my music is about. The process. What’s happening throughout the process. Life doesn’t stop outside of music. There’s a lot going on but we keep pushing forward through all of it. And that counts for something. I think that’s the message I tend to give off in my songs. It may not be that blatant, but it’s definitely an underlying theme. Yes I rap, and it’s amazing what doors have opened for me because of it. And of course I have my braggodocious moments like any other rapper. But I’m also a person going through regular things that everyone goes through. I’m not afraid to admit things and put it on a track for the folks who can’t articulate it as well, but understand it and feel it because they’re going through or went through it too
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It really depends on the friend. But I think generally speaking, we’d definitely have to get to Little Gio’s, best pizza in New York City hands down. And sweet chick for the chicken and waffles. Central Park is always a good go to. I love the city so majority of what I do takes place in Manhattan. I think that’s the best part of NY. Outside of Queens obviously. But it definitely depends on the friend that’s here. I usually cater to what I know they would like.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s too many to name. My pops first and foremost that man has been there through all of it and has been my biggest supporter as well as my biggest critic besides myself. There’s a negative connotation that comes with the word critic but in this case it’s only been to help me become better as an artist and I appreciate him for that. Fingaz would be next. He’s been a huge help and Lowkey a mentor in this music thing. He’s a big factor in helping mold my sound and just my overall artistry. A lot of my work is rooted in what I learned from him. Of course all my homies that have been supporting since day one. The folks who I don’t even know personally who have been supporting and sending me motivating DM’s and comments and all that. EVERYONE in flux studios! They’re phenomenal over there, its always love and support. I mean, there’s a lot but off the top that’s all I got.
