We had the good fortune of connecting with Shivansh Nikhra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shivansh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
With a passion for technology, we sought to harness the power of programming to save lives in emergencies. After watching a video from Inside Edition about a woman calling 911 under the guise of ordering a pizza, we identified a desperate need to help those in domestic abuse situations. Thus, we came up with Silent Safety, a mobile iOS app that speaks to 911 on your behalf when you can’t make noise. After months of programming, pitching, and collaborating with experts our vision turned into reality. Overall, we wanted to find a way to help these people with the resources we had, and apply our programming knowledge to solve real-world problems. Silent Safety was the result, and we’re all delighted.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From its inception, our journey with Silent Safety was never cut and dry; every step of the way was met with hardship. But we treated each barrier as a stepping stone of opportunity.

With no prior iOS app development experience, programming the app itself was challenging. But countless weeks of YouTube videos, articles, and Udemy courses propelled Shivansh to learn new programming concepts and solve problems, eventually turning Silent Safety into reality.

But we quickly learned that this was only half of the battle.

After pitching and collaborating with police departments and domestic abuse organizations, we realized the importance of working with community leaders. With their feedback, knowledge, and expertise we added features and redesigned Silent Safety to make it easier to use. While at times we didn’t receive the most positive feedback, each conversation served as an opportunity to improve Silent Safety.

Now, Silent Safety is stronger than ever and we’re excited to build on our enriching experiences thus far to continue expanding and fulfilling our objective of saving domestic abuse victims.
