We had the good fortune of connecting with Shernett Swaby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shernett, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
From the outset, I was certain about my desire to become a designer. Given the highly competitive nature of the fashion industry, it was crucial for me to create clothing that resonated with my clients. I observed that the industry often compels individuals to conform to mass-produced styles. In response to this, I chose to design clothing tailored to my customers’ unique needs. By providing bespoke services and lifetime alterations, I ensure that my garments are not just clothes, but a perfect fit for each individual client.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I take immense pride in not only the inception of my business but also its enduring presence. The journey has been challenging, yet my surprising tenacity has been a constant, propelling me forward. I’ve stayed true to my brand’s ethos of creating wearable, avant-garde garments. When confronted with obstacles, I remind myself of their transitory nature. Patience, consistency, and unwavering commitment to my vision have been my guiding lights. The most vital lesson I’ve learned is the necessity of adaptability. The ability to evolve and grow alongside my business has been instrumental. Our brand stands for individuality and sustainability, with a commitment to locally produced, handmade designs
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Should my best friend visit Chicago, our first stop would be the House of Blues. A drive by the iconic Wrigley Field would naturally follow, and a visit to Paradise Park to savor my favorite drink, a Moscow Mule, would be a must. The next day, in an ideal world, we’d take a jet to Paris for an overnight adventure, indulging in the finest French cuisine, immersing ourselves in the vibrant French culture, and living it up. This is the dream… However, in reality, leisure time is a luxury I seldom have, as I’m typically engrossed in work, designing, and planning thrilling new ventures for SWABY. Stay tuned for more!
