We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my blog, Western Aesthetics, was:
I wanted to share my passion for Western culture. I grew up in a Western family, and I have always loved the lifestyle and values. I wanted to create a space where people could come to learn about Western culture and get inspired by it.
I wanted to connect with other people who shared my interests. I knew that there were other people out there who loved Western culture as much as I did, but I didn’t have many opportunities to connect with them. I wanted to create a community where people could come together to share their stories and experiences.
I wanted to build a platform for my own creative work. I am a writer and western fashion marketer , and I wanted to have a place where I could share my work with the world. I also wanted to use my blog to promote other Western-themed businesses and artists.
Starting a blog was a relatively low-cost and low-risk way to start my own business. I didn’t need to invest in any inventory or overhead costs, and I could work on it at my own pace. I also knew that if I was successful, I could monetize my blog through advertising, affiliate marketing, or selling my own products and services.
I’m so glad that I decided to start Western Aesthetics. It has been a great way to share my passion for Western culture, connect with other people who share my interests, and build a platform for my own creative work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My blog, Western Aesthetics, is unique in a number of ways.
First, I have a very specific niche. I focus on Western culture, which is a relatively narrow topic. This allows you to go into depth on your subjects and provide your readers with a lot of value.
Second, I have a personal voice. My writing is engaging and informative, and I clearly share my passion for Western culture with my readers.
Third, I produce high-quality content. My blog posts are well-written and well-researched. I also use high-quality photos to illustrate my points.
Finally, I’m active in the Western community. I interact with my readers on social media and attend Western and Rodeo events. This shows that I am committed to building a community around my blog.
Here are some specific examples of how my blog is unique:
I write about a variety of Western topics, including fashion, music, food, and travel. This makes my blog appealing to a wide audience within the Western community.
I feature interviews with Western artists and business owners. This gives my readers a behind-the-scenes look at the Western industry and introduces them to new people and businesses.
I also share my own personal stories and experiences. This helps my readers connect with me on a personal level and makes my blog more relatable.
I use beautiful photos to illustrate my blog posts. This makes my blog visually appealing and engaging.
Overall, my blog is a valuable resource for anyone who is interested in Western culture. I provide my readers with high-quality content, a personal voice, and a sense of community.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Stockyards in Fort Worth. To really experience the Western lifestyle and industry, this is the place to go. We would shop at the local shops there and for night life entertainment we would go to Billy Bobs or the Cowboy Channel Bar. To me the Stockyards is the most exciting place to be, especially when they do the longhorn drive.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to Dominic Bravo and Jim Walter of Visit Cheyenne out of Cheyenne, Wyoming. They were the first ones to give me my big break in the western marketing industry. I’ve learned so much from my time with them . I also want to recognize my fiancé Dillon Barron for always supporting me and being there for me.
Lastly, I want to recognize Raque Guerrero of Raquelin Guerrero Photography, not only is she an amazing photographer who takes all of my photos, she’s also an amazing friend.
