We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelbi Roof and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelbi, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Weatherford Texas. Growing up my mom and my Grannie were constantly in the kitchen baking the most delicious and beautiful treats. All throughout my childhood anytime there was a party or event of any sort it was a guarantee that there would be at least one item baked by someone in our family. As I got older I too started to bake items for friends events, such as birthday parties, bridal showers and even one of my friends wedding! I have always had a passion for baking and I am so blessed that I am now able to do what I love as my job.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Bee Hive Bakery in June of 2023. My daughter had started school and as a stay at home mom I was trying to find something that I could do during the day but that would also allow me flexibility with my schedule so that I could be present for my family. My first order was a Gone Fishing theme smash cake for a 1 year old’s birthday party. I enjoyed it so much and the customer was so happy with the cake that I decided to take the leap and start Bee Hive Bakery which is a home bakery that operates under Texas Cottage Law and is located in Springtown. Over the last year my business Facebook page has gained over 550 followers and I have baked for over 150 customers. I feel that what sets me apart is my honesty, personality and the fact that when I take an order I put 100% into it no matter what it is. I like to treat my customers with both professionalism and friendliness, I want them to enjoy the entire process and for them to be nothing but thrilled with the product that I provide!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are a very outdoor type of family and we like to keep things pretty simple. I personally Love Augie’s Sunset Cafe and Marina for the food, drinks and the atmosphere. Sitting on the patio beside the water is so relaxing to me. There are also some really great antique malls in the Azle/Springtown area that you can get lost in for hours. We would also likely eat at Howell’s Western Cafe because how does anyone stay in Springtown and not eat there!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today just a little over a year after starting Bee Hive Bakery if it weren’t for my husband, family and the most amazing customers. My husband is such a huge help with every aspect from watching our daughter while I work to helping me with the baking and decorating. I tend to be my own worst critic when I’m working on something and he’s always able to help me through anything. My family has been so supportive and helpful when it comes to promoting my business and also helping with things like deliveries. And then there are my customers. This past year has been a lot of learning for me and everyone has been so kind. I have a few customers that have purchased from me multiple times and that tell everyone who is looking for a baker about me and my business and that means so so much to me!
