We had the good fortune of connecting with Shedrick Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shedrick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew by the time I was 20 that I did not wanna spend the rest of my life working for anyone besides myself. So with that , I started to look at some of my hobbies to see what I could do to make some extra money. Ding ding ding , photography. I had taken multiple photography classes in high school and at the time had a personal camera so I started small and worked my way to being a professional. In the mist of all that my mom has started making custom T-shirts . That sparked my interest in having a clothing , within less than a month I started Blasé.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes from memories and situations I’ve been through in life. I don’t typically feel creative without somehow implying a story or a motif behind my work. I faced depression in 2019 and that’s what kicked off my mental wealth campaign for my clothing line. My street wear is the perfect place for me to vent. I get to basically lay everything out , telling my story and others story. I love the fact I can raise awareness all the while being creative. One thing I’d love for everyone to know about me and my story is that through everything I went through it made love more. I am very intentional on spreading love and giving back to my community. I love pouring into others because it makes me happy to see others happy and successful. I think that’s the biggest reward of this whole thing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to eat! So we’re probably gonna go eat at the best restaurants , ride some scooters , goto a museum , etc. Probably end the weekend off at a bar or over some mimosas and brunch. Who knows , maybe both!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother ! She’s been my inspiration from the start . She taught me how to turn nothing into something and how to grind. She was and still is always pushing me to be at my very best and I couldn’t thank her enough for what’s she has instilled in me. My father , my son , my siblings , and my friends encourage me as well to just be a better me in different areas in my life so I can’t leave them out. Much love to them
