We had the good fortune of connecting with Shay Ramsee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shay, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
You can’t be everything to everybody. I use to believe that because I’m a wedding planner, all engaged couples are apart of my target audience. I didn’t understand the importance of niching down and creating an ideal client profile until I launched my business Moxie and Luxe. I decided to cater to non traditional couples and I instantly saw a spike in my business when I niched down.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of Moxie and Luxe as well as Moxie Management. Moxie and Luxe caters to non traditional engaged couples who want to express their love for each other and the things they love in non traditional ways. Moxie Management is a wedding day and virtual assistance agency that helps experienced wedding planners grow their business by taking away the tasks they hate so they can focus on the tasks they love.
What sets me and both of my businesses apart is that we do things most people don’t think of doing. When I help my engaged couples, I encourage them to add everything their heart desires to their wedding because it’s a once in a lifetime event and I don’t ever want to limit them due to tradition. The reason I launched my VA agency is because it was something that I needed for my business and couldn’t find it so I created it for myself and others. I wanted experienced virtual assistants who has years experience within the wedding industry not just someone who wants to be apart of the wedding industry because it looks amazing in movies or magazines.
If we want to see change, we have to be the change!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends and I love cocktails, delicious food, relaxation and upscale atmospheres. Knowing that, we would start our Friday off with a cocktail at the rattlesnake bar, either go to the beach depending on the weather or a spa, and end our night at the dinner at Nobu Dallas and live music at W hotel. Saturday we would go to Haywire Uptown for brunch, spend a few hours exploring downtown, begin the evening at Top Golf and end with more music at the W hotel. We usually go to RH Rooftop on Sundays to say our goodbyes over a good meal.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mother Mary Ramsee. Through my whole 10 years of wedding planning, she has been supportive consistently and pushing me to stick with my dreams.
Throughout my wedding planning experience, I’ve went to conventions, read magazines, bought books and found many ways to continue to inspire and educate myself through my career. I would love to also give a shout out to Wedding MBA, The Knot Magazine, and Instagram accounts @greenweddingshoes, @munaluchi, and @stylemepretty.
