Hi Shay Mechelle, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Habits that helped me succeed in my line of business is customer care and treating everyone with respect. . Providing everyone client with a great experience and GRADE A quality service is top notch with my business and I take pride in that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel what sets me apart from most makeup artist is me taking my time, getting to know my client, their skin type, any allergic reactions to products, listening to what type of look they want and perhaps, if needed offering my take on what I would suggest. I take my time with each client, building a bond, and I leave them with small gifts! 🥰 It’s just my way of showing appreciation! So, I started my career as a makeup artist Faces by Shay Mechelle 3yrs ago when I started my cosmetic brand Shay Mechelle Cosmetics. Becoming an entrepreneur in the beauty industry pushed me to be more broad with my skills which I sought out with learning a few techniques and attending makeup school to become a pro makeup artist. It just made sense! I’ve gotten to where I am today because of my professionalism, being sanitary when it comes to the beauty industry, providing excellent customer service and building a great rapport with my clients. They are family! It definitely wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. Especially going through a lot of trials while attending makeup school. Most of the challenges were allowing others to feel like they are capable of stopping your dream. And trust, it can happen….if you allow it! The lessons I’ve learned along the way is that YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR OWN DESTINY! Don’t let anyone/thing stand in the way of your destiny and dream! I would like the world or any other aspiring makeup artist in the beauty industry to know that they can do it, practice makes perfect, and you most definitely gotta start somewhere! Faces by Shay Mechelle is definitely a growing brand which will soon be recognized globally for my skills, expertise, and professionalism. I plan to continue to grow my brand with helping other pursue their dream as a makeup artist, teaching my way of techniques, and also showing them they too can be a success professional makeup artist. I love what I do! Making people feel beautiful, makes me feel beautiful……inside!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Omggg! I would take them to uptown down town Dallas where we would first go to Happiest Hour, to have a few drinks. Then we would also go to Via Real to eat the best of the best and be greeted and served by the best. We would also go to Waterproof at the Statler to have a good time hanging out. We’ll visit cedar springs for some good Italian pizza on the corner of Cedar Springs at Italian Express, best pizza and calzones, Del Frisco’s, Moxies, Whiskey Cake, and Another Broken Egg, First Watch for brunch. 😋 We would also visit Addision Improv for some laughs. We’ll visit Black Girl Magic Museum and Rainbow Vomit art gallery. We would also go to XOXO to enjoy food and drinks as well as the cute atmosphere/scenery! Most of the trip will contain nothing but food, a good time, drinks, laughs, and memories. There are so many attractions and fun we would have, not to mention the spontaneous activities!!! ☺️

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out Project Beauty for opportunities of serving the community with their volunteers service to individuals/women who have been through or going through hardships in life. Giving those women hope and making them beautiful helps them forget about the life’s obstacles they’re facing, at least just for a little while. Allowing them that “Me Time” to feel empowered, beautiful, and bold! As well as thanks to my family who have supported me from day 1 rather it was offering their time to do a practice run, being a model for me for a show/event/ or content, and also my returning clients who believe in me and trust me with enhancing their beauty.
