We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawnee Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawnee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting Kidfirming was to provide a resource directed mainly towards children that’s designed to help them build positive self-esteem and a strong sense of self-worth. I felt it was to become my job to teach them how awesome they are through self encouragement. By doing that I thought what better way than to create a program that provides multiple tools of positive messages that help children feel good about themselves and the world around them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Kidfirming has been helping kids for a few years now. We started off by building an affirmation app on Apple and Android that you can download for kids on their electronic devices. Then we released books that are filled with fun and engaging activities that encourages kids to believe in themselves, focus on their strengths, and overcome any obstacles they may face. From there we took it to the next level with our affirmation classes that are crazy fun and hands on. In those classes we get on their level to communicate positivity and bring the energy they can feel so when they leave they are mentally stronger. Our app and other tools provide a safe and positive space where kids can explore their emotions and build a strong foundation for their future.

Honestly it wasn’t easy to get where I am professionally but because I love what I do it made the process painless.

I over came all challenges by keeping in mind the importance of these tools and how it will help thousands of kids around the world.

One important lesson I have learned along the way is to never be afraid to fail! Those life moments where things did not go as planed should push you to never fail in trying more.

I am most excited about seeing the change in our community with people becoming more altruistic, and that starts with the way we treat our kids. I want the world to know that Kidfirming is here to help our children in those life moments when they need a self boost. Affirming them will give them that mental confidence to reassure their character and set positive emotions in place when most needed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the most interesting places to go visit here in Dallas that will help encourage kids and enhance their creativity is the Dallas Children’s Theater! They have numerous of variety of shows that are fun and educational for kids and families of all ages. They also provide year round classes and programs that are beneficial to your childs mental growth. Dallas Museum of Art is another exciting place that I would recommend for your kids to visit. This place is full of exquisite art that will keep your child’s attention engaged for hours of beautiful collections from all over the world! They as well have classes and educational programs that tend to all family age ranges and backgrounds that will sure to enhance your child’s intellectual fortitude. And then of course the Kidfirming center! We are opening our new building soon and it is going to blow your minds with all the endeavors we have set up for children! I would like to Shoutout my mentor and Dallas mogul, Darryl Williams! He has set the way for many entrepreneurs as myself to become successful in prospering their dreams! Not only that but his self made success is encouraging and motivating to all generations! I would also like to Shoutout my illustrator Zoey Coley! She is hands down the best at graphic designs and making your words come to life with her creative spirit. There is nothing that she cant produce that is better than what you envisioned!
