We had the good fortune of connecting with Shavon Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shavon, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite affirmation is I Work For God. Everything I strive to do on the earth is centered around sharing God’s love with those who are hurting, broken, need love, or are hopeless. I strive to be His hands and feet everywhere I go. Working for God gives me the opportunity to interact with strangers, to share kindness with those who may not be kind, and to show love to those who may be unlovable. I am able to interact, conversate, and minister to people from different cultures and backgrounds, and I am not limited to one person, one race, or one financial status. I have an assignment that keeps me out of the box, and it gives me liberty and license to change the world for the better. Working for God empowers me to be a transformer and a world changer. It empowers me to be a shaker, mover, disruptor, and shifter. I work for a boss that pays me very well. He pays me with heavenly benefits that man will never be able to pay me. Working for God has given me the greatest fulfillment that one can have on earth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The journey has not been a smooth road. I do not believe that the road for anyone who is called to be a disruptor or to do anything different will be smooth. Opposition comes from several angles, and it comes from your own kind such as family and those close to you. Others may not always see what you see. I have dealt with having to uproot everything I have known for years and with others not understanding my decisions. It all came with great sacrifices, losses, and walking away from people I loved for what I am called to do, often being mislabeled because of my stance. Sometimes my standards are deemed as self-centered and perceived in a negative manner because I am passionate about my beliefs and stand on the word of God. Having people who will take advantage of your heart has not been easy, but it has been worth it. Throughout my journey, I have learned that when you work for God, He is obligated to take care of you. Obey God, even when it makes you look stupid.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am still fairly new to the Dallas/Forth Worth area. However, I few of my favorite spots are Kitchen and Cocktails, NorthPark Mall, H.E.B. Grocery Store (lol) and Chicken and Pickle.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to acknowledge those who have been with me throughout my journey. I have the best A-Team, and without them, I would not be able to do what I do. My administrator is my right hand, who has always been there. There are also several others on my team who assist in ensuring the success of my endeavors. I appreciate those who take time from their schedules to work with me in my ministry and businesses. They are the real MVPs. They make it possible for me to do what I am doing.
