We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharda Ferrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharda, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Outsiders may not know that there are many directions an artist or an author can go in the art and book industries. Before becoming an artist, I thought I would be a starving artist. It wasn’t until I learned about art shows and art events where I was able to meet other artists and discover the many facets of being an artist. Before becoming an author, I thought my only option was a big publishing house. After reading an article about self-published authors, I was inspired to take the same route. Why wait? It’s not necessarily easier taking these routes, but it guarantees freedom of choice; especially, one that best fits the artist or author.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist and author, I am constantly growing and changing. I’ve gone from sharing my work with family and friends to displaying my talent at art shows and exhibits. I’ve learned to ask questions, speak up, and be okay with not attending every event or accepting every opportunity. I once thought being busy painting and writing meant that I was doing what made me happy. Today, I can finally admit to being satisfied with where I am. I don’t have to be busy or always looking for what’s next. I want everyone to know that success is not defined by others. It’s what you make it. It’s all because of my relationship with God. As long as I can spread love, bring joy, and help someone in their life with my art and books, then that’s the brand and story that I want others to get. It’s about doing what I was put here to do – create. And it would not have been possible without God.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am the itinerary’s unofficial expert. Let me explain. I do not travel much, but when I do, I Google search heavily all the hot spots and neighborhood hidden treasures with the help of reviews. From my best friend, I’ll need to know what they like to do and the places they’ve already had in mind to visit. As far as being a tour guide of my city, I’m glad I’ve been given a week, because it’ll be impossible to fit my area in one or two days. First, we have to plan out each day. For example, let’s say it’s a Sunday. What time are we starting the day? 8am? Let’s find a breakfast restaurant. Are we downtown or in a small neighborhood? Did they bring their walking shoes? Do they want to visit a historical landmark or an amusement park? Maybe, they just want to go shopping. Thankfully, my city is endless on things to do. We shall never be bored.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I just published my 6th book titled, “The Richest Men on Earth.” This book took two years to write, and it wouldn’t have been published without my relationship with God. Because of Him, I was able to get more personal with the characters in the book. This book focuses on three fathers, their sons, and their relationships with one another. Last year was a journey unlike any other for us all, but with God’s help I gained experience, fulfillment, and a true purpose. Now, I write and paint to share how beautiful life is and how much God loves us. For me, it’s all about our relationships. So, I dedicate my shoutout to my Heavenly Father Yahweh, family, friends, and supporters. I love you all so very much!
