We had the good fortune of connecting with Shania Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shania, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my business is deeply inspired by African American 90s culture—the bold self-expression, confidence, and celebration of natural beauty while also giving dramatic and artistic touches. I aspire to showcase my creative skills & unique pieces . I thrive off of creative design, bright and bold colors and lots of hairspray!! On the other hand I’d specifically look forward to working with textured hair, helping young Black women grow and maintain healthy hair. Black hair carries deep spiritual importance and is a symbol of identity, resilience, and ancestral connection. For centuries, textured hair has held sacred meaning in African cultures, with intricate braids, locs, and styles signifying heritage, status, and even spiritual protection. Our hair is not just an aesthetic expression—it is a crown that tells a story, a manifestation of strength, creativity, and divine beauty. It has the power to connect us to our roots, embody self-love, and serve as a form of resistance against societal pressures to conform. Embracing Black hair in its natural state is an act of honoring our lineage, reclaiming our power, and celebrating the unique essence of who we are. Beyond hair care, my mission is to inspire authenticity and individuality, encouraging people to stand in their own light. I want to show others that embracing who they truly are can lead to incredible success and open doors they never imagined possible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my keen eye for creative detail and bold fashion statements, allowing me to bring a unique and personal touch to everything I do. My ability to blend artistry with individuality shines through in my work, making every style, every look, and every creation a reflection of my passion. I don’t just follow trends—I set them, embracing originality and inspiring others to do the same. My business is more than just hair; it’s a movement of self-expression, confidence, and unapologetic authenticity. I’m most excited about graduating cosmetology school so I can finally step into my bold, colorful fashion and bring my creative vision to life. I’ve been honing my skills and learning the techniques, but I can’t wait for the freedom to fully express myself and create the styles I’ve always envisioned. This is my moment to break boundaries, push my artistry to new heights, and inspire others to embrace their uniqueness just as boldly. I got to where I am today professionally through trial and error, constantly exploring my passion for the beauty industry. I’ve always known I wanted to do something in this field, and along the way, I experimented with different paths, including doing hair from home. While those experiences taught me a lot, I found my true comfort and confidence in cosmetology school, where I could refine my skills and learn to do everything professionally. Now, I’m ready to take everything I’ve learned and turn it into something truly impactful.. I want the world to know that my brand is built on a unique and artistic vision for the beauty industry—one that embraces bold creativity, individuality, and authenticity. My journey has been shaped by passion, trial and error, and a deep love for textured hair and self-expression. Through my work, I aim to inspire others to step into their light, embrace their natural beauty, and see the power in standing out. This isn’t just about hair—it’s about creating a movement that celebrates artistry, confidence, and the limitless potential of being unapologetically yourself.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my dad and my mom for not only believing in me but for being the foundation of my journey. Their financial support has given me the freedom to chase my dreams, but even more than that, their wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love have been my greatest blessings. From life lessons to spiritual guidance, they have always been there to lift me up when I needed it most. I truly couldn’t do this without them, and I’m beyond grateful for everything they’ve poured into me. This journey is just as much theirs as it is mine.
