We had the good fortune of connecting with Seth Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Seth, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think most people still assume you have to sign a major record deal to be relevant. This is no longer true! With a combination of social media savvy, algorithm optimization On Spotify, and, of course, music that people want to listen to, you can build huge fan bases without ever speaking to a music label at all. Artists have more tools than ever to succeed at a national or worldwide level. You gotta be interesting to a large group of people then you gotta make sure they discover you. It’s a crazy game we play, but playing it properly bypasses the need for big money infusion of bloodsucking blue blooded white collars.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been writing songs for almost 20 years! It’s crazy to think about that. I’ve always been in bands. I used to be the drummer and singer but now I’m a guitar player and singer.

What sets me apart is probably the fact that I write country songs AND punk rock songs. I have a punk band called Americarnage that has a nice little cult following.

I’ve slowly built the quality of my recordings as I’ve been able to pay for higher quality studios and constituents. It’s difficult finding time and money to fuel my music, but I work as much as I can at the hospital to accrue resources. I work in physical therapy which won’t make me rich, but it’ll help with music career costs.

I want the world to know that I’ve written every song by myself. I did not sit at a big table of songwriters. I didn’t meet with a songwriting expert and piggyback his ideas. These songs are my brain only. I think that’s cool and I think people can appreciate that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Man, this is tough! So many great places in the DFW area..

Lockwood is a very cool distillery. Great environment, drinks, food, live music. Mutts is very fun because you can get drunk while surrounded by dozens of dogs! Who doesn’t want that?! Dream Cafe, Snooze, or First Watch for your breakfast needs! La Mita is also awesome for a Friday or Saturday night. They have secret rooms to get hammered in before returning to the restaurant which transforms into a club when it starts getting late!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout! I could give a shoutout to so many different people here but I’m gonna pick a group that helps me a lot.

This is the group of musicians and friends who support me as I support them, share stages with me every month, and share the pains and joys of being an approval seeking artist. This is a wild way to live and you don’t want to live it alone. I have great friends who play and write music and we always have each other’s backs. It makes a huge difference in mindset when you have that type of support every day.
