We had the good fortune of connecting with Setara Monzon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Setara, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I will always say keep going! Unless what you’re doing is making you miserable or stopping you from being your best self, keep pushing. In the past, anytime I felt like I should call it quits on one of my creative ventures I looked for alternate ways to make it work and I’m always researching anything I’m into to feel confident in my work and processes. To build a following and a strong support system you need to first believe in yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art by Setara Monzon is fluid movement with abstract glamour in deep tones inspired by nature’s beauty. I’m most proud of my resin geode art pieces at the moment. I love that I can create art that reflects nature’s beauty and is a further extension of my jewelry design style. I have a bit of a crystal obsession that shines through in my art, jewelry and home. I’ve always made art and crafty things throughout my life but only in the last 2 years have I taken it more serious by lots of trial and error, tons of videos, workshops, collaborating with other creatives and just going for it. Don’t wait for someone to tell you you are an artist! If you create art you are an artist! I overcame not feeling as confident in my work by educating myself. I have watched tons of videos and workshops and read articles and just soaked up any information I could about what I want to do. Then you have to jump!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m more of a homebody so here are just my go to’s! Eat Breakfast/Brunch at Oddfellows in Bishop Arts Lunch at Glorias at the Harbor in Rockwall Dinner at Meso Maya Downtown or Deep Sushi in Deep Ellum Drink Angry Dog avocado and cucumber margaritas & all local beers Maraca’s mango margaritas with extra tajin! Ruins tacos and margaritas in Deep Ellum Visit Hair Blowout at Orange Salon with Mary Borjas in Deep Ellum Mani Pedi at Lush Salon with Hang Luong on Haskell Hangout during the day any book store thrift store hunting all over town Canvas Hotel rooftop at night for the best view of the Dallas skyline.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must give credit to my biggest supporter and believer in all things I do…my husband, Luis. I feel like he sees my successes before I do. He’s always been a loving and uplifting partner. Also my best friend and business partner Kat Diesel for telling everybody and their mamas about anything I put out into the world! She is always on my side helping me build my success.
