We had the good fortune of connecting with Senpaii The Indigo Child and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Senpaii, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose this career path because nothing comes easy. In this business of being a creative your success is determined by how much you believe in yourself. And quite frankly the music/entertainment business saved my life. Because there was a time when I did not believe in myself and I couldn’t see a way out of my current situation and I was ready to end my life but the only thing that was able to keep me here was writing my music. And that saved me because sometimes I couldn’t even begin to fathom to see a way out of my homeless situation…but there were times were I would go into almost a meditative like state because I knew that things were going to get better but seeing them was far beyond my current reality and calling that in is what I had to do with writing my music because that was the only place I was able to find strength…and you can’t just part with that…THIS LIFE CHOSE ME!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well first off I’m a recording artist and I make Hip/Hop and RnB music. Now I’m not your traditional Hip-hop or R&B artist I make music you can dance too and Music you can turn up too yeah for sure…But I always make sure to infuse consciousness and spirituality into my music. Because I not only want you to turn up and feel the beat I want you to be able to relate to it and possibly share some of those experiences as well…and if you’d like too, check out my Ep “EYE AM SENPAII” on all streaming platforms and listen to No Disrespect to have some insight to what I’m referring to. And we all know how oversaturated the industry is with gangster rappers and people who rap about the struggle but that’s the beauty of music you can write about anything you want too I just choose to rap my life story and the things that I’ve been through and always try to give a spiritual/positive message because that’s something that I hold dear to my heart. It’s what I’m called to do as an Indigo Child.
And in my career I am where I am now because of the consistency and effort that I’ve put in…I can’t tell you how many open mics, featured performances, and artist networking events I’ve went too but in this business your network is your net worth so I try to rub shoulders with as many people as possible…and no it’s not easy but if you love what you do then you’ll always find your way, now needless to say with Dallas now starting to get the respect it deserves for the music and artist it’s been producing I can say that we as artist and creatives need to start working together more, regardless of your follower count or who you worked for or with in the past…because independently we can’t do it…but as a whole we can shake up the world!
Some lessons that I’ve learned along the way in my journey are to always remain humble because there’s always someone who’s working harder than you, just don’t let them out work you…respectfully, also never take people upfront, you gotta hold them to their word…because a lot of people know how to talk the talk but when it comes to that walking part they a little shaky when it comes to actually coming through and producing results, and lastly give people your most authentic self, no need to be fake or try to fit in, because it makes it a lot easier to deal and do business with people also people respect you for that, because they know they’re dealing with the real thing not an imposter.
And I want the world to know that I am here and I’m not going nowhere!!! For me personally it’s either become successful or die trying because this is what I see myself doing yeeeaarrs from now.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So boom, the first day after they fly in we gone chill for a little while then after we all rested and what not we going to the Perot Museum because I’m a nerd and like to continuously know new things also the different interactive exhibits are so mesmerising and make you feel like a kid again. Then for the eats we going to Rudys Chicken for sure! They have the best chicken in Dallas! and it’s on a Monday so you know at nightfall round 9 o’clock we going to the Chocolate Lounge for some live music and grown and sexy vibes…real pristine like. Then on Tuesday for sure we going to The Green Elephant for The Dallas Open Mic we’re the hottest performers in the city sign up and go crazy!!!
Wednesday we’ll hit up the nature scene and go to Cedar Hill State Park because we gotta get the nature energy…also one of the best spots to go site-seeing over vast mountain ranges and forests
Thursday you already know we’re we at…THE SPEAKEASY OPEN MIC!!!! It’s always a good time and vibes there are unmatched…of course we would perform…but I would also show them the vendors that set up and have their own personal items to share…whether that be crystals all the way to their own clothing line! You never know what you’re gonna get!
Friday we would definitely head out for a night in Deep Ellum…definitely hitting up Louie Louie’s Piano Bar for the best drinks and all types of live performances…then head over to Creators Don’t Die for whatever concert my guy Meka has going on he’s always working!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my mentor Mr. Aundre Blasingame he’s a chef by trade and is the founder/head chef at Heavenly Catering.(@blasj69) And without his guidance or words of wisdom I would’ve given up on myself along time ago because it was him along with another gentleman who really set me straight on the entrepreneur/business path and got my mind right and ready to take on the world. Also my girlfriend, my best friend, my queen Kai (@kai_mariep) if not for her I probably wouldn’t be alive right now. She has stuck beside me through my entire metamorphosis as a human being and I love her so much even when my actual family Wanted nothing to do with me and I was sleeping in my car, she stayed by my side. The true definition of a ride or die…and we’ve been locked in ever since high school.

And lastly my brother Calvin Wells (@calmeetswxrld) this gentleman has done more for me than anybody else I know he always comes through for me whenever I’m in a time of need and he is one of the first genuine people that I don’t struggle to say that about. And the love is always reciprocated.
