We had the good fortune of connecting with Selena Moreno Ferrer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted freedom to do what I love, which is to make women feel beautiful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My love for makeup started off when I was just a little girl. I remember playing in my aunties makeup, mesmerized by all the colors and products.

As soon as I turned 18, I applied to MAC Cosmetics and was with the company for 5 years. I loved my job, I played with makeup all day and made women feel beautiful with my skills. However, I didn’t have those skills right away, it was a lot of trial and error. Thankfully I had amazing managers and coworkers who all showed me their own techniques and with time, I found my own makeup style.

When I grew the courage to venture off on my own, I enrolled in school to get my esthetician license. I immediately fell in love with waxing and lashing. I knew right then and there, whatever I decided to do, it had to include all three of my passions because I couldn’t just choose one but that wasn’t easy. All I found were places focusing on either lashes or waxing. After some time working at a lash studio, gaining experience, I took a chance on myself and opened SM Beautie. I offer makeup, lashes and waxing services so I never have to choose between one or the other.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Even though I’ve only been in the DFW area for a year and a half, I feel like I have some good recommendations for a weekend trip. I’d first take her to Tacos irresistible in Fort Worth for some quick tacos de trompo.

We’d eventually make our way to the stock yards because I feel like it’s a must if it’s your first time in Fort Worth.

For dinner, we would make our way to Mexican Sugar Cocina in Irving. They have the best churros.

I’d definitely plan a day trip to Dallas area and show her how insane the galleria mall is, never ending stores.

We’d get brunch at Vidorra in Dallas, right where all the bars and restaurants are and probably walk around and explore some other restaurants for some drinks.

We’d get some rest at the Lorenzo hotel in Dallas. It’s newly renovated and it has some amazing art pieces all throughout the hotel. For dinner, we would go to Kiss. Another place that I feel everyone should experience. It’s like a live instagram, everyone dresses up to the T and the music is on point.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family is my biggest support system. I will definitely give my shoutout to them, especially my fiancé. They all believed and encouraged me when I couldn’t.
