We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Faris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I made a decision as a young man to never do anything that wasn’t related to art or music. The longest I’ve ever held a job outside of the arts is six months. I spent the early part of my career touring and teaching, then I opened my recording studio, The Amusement Park. I’ve made every career decision based on whether it takes me closer to the dream or further from it. I always chose closer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My wife, Amy Goode Faris, and I are composers. We write music for film, TV, and live productions. My favorite projects we’ve ever worked on are “Metopolis Elektro,” a new soundtrack for the 1927 silent film “Metropolis” that we perform live synced to the film with a 24-piece ensemble (including a chamber orchestra, choir, rapper, rock band, and DJ), and “Click,” a ballet we collaborated on with Ballet Lubbock.

2023 is going to be a big year. We’re performing “Click” again on April 15th at the Buddy Holly Hall for the Performing Arts in Lubbock, and we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of “Metrolpolis Elektro” with a performance at the Flatland Film Festival in September.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For inspiration, I visit museums everywhere I go. Great art fills my soul, so the Dallas Museum of Art is a must. Since all my buddies are musicians, we’d probably kick around the music stores. I like locally owned places, so Charley’s Guitar Shop is a must. I’d also take them for a night on the town in Deep Ellum, so we could catch some live original music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
David Brandon is a world-class classical guitarist who teaches in Lubbock, Texas. I studied with David as a teenager, and then he asked me to teach for him. That allowed me to make a living with a guitar in hand almost from day one, and I’m eternally grateful for his mentorship, guidance, and friendship.
