We had the good fortune of connecting with Sassy Medchill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sassy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I never intended to do hair. When the market crashed in 2007, I was fresh out of college and working as an interior designer. Like many others, I quickly found myself laid off and needing other options—-hair school was the answer. I could still be expressive, creative and surround myself with amazing people. I instantly fell in love. I could not believe people would pay to let me help them feel beautiful.

For fifteen years I have spent thousands of hours behind the chair perfecting the art of transformations. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t thank my God that the stars aligned the way they did. From working in a salon, to a suite life and now to leading an incredible team at my own salon, the hair world is home. Over the past six years, I have leaned into the luxury extension niche and have found a true passion for leading and helping to guide stylists through their own journey. In 2021, I was honored to be invited on with Covet & Mane & Evolve as a national educator.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been a creative person and have an inner pull to make things beautiful. Back in college I started a mural painting business. I had the privilege of meeting so many great people and saw how excited they were with what I could change about their home. I’ve poured my heart into designing all four of my kid’s nursery rooms and I fell in love with my husband all over again renovating each of our homes. Being able to take something and transform it into its full potential is literally what I want to wake up and do.

This is also true for my business. I know that the work we do gives women confidence and makes them feel beautiful. I think the magic really begins in always being willing to be a student. Continually learning more, refreshing what I know and nurturing the relationships with people that has created along the way. At Goldie, we are always striving to be better and to expand our knowledge of the industry. We want to give a better experience to our guests than they have ever had before. Something they wouldn’t necessarily expect from a hair salon, but something they realize they don’t want to live without.

Over the past year, we have really started working on blending different textures to match our clients natural hair. This has opened the door to so many new opportunities and clients. It’s been really cool to add another layer to the customization we can offer. Hopefully this transcends to our clients feeling like we are 100% inclusive of what we offer regardless of texture, density or length.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Gosh, I feel so old, hah! I’ve been in total mom mode for a good minute, so I’m going to have to brush off the social cobwebs. I’m always up for live music and a new restaurant with a great patio. When the weather is nice, Saint Ann’s is always a go to for me. I also am quite the hotel snob and love doing little staycations with my husband. We recently spent a weekend in Fort Worth at the Drover Hotel and it was dreamy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my sweetest shoutout goes straight to my husband Brad. He was the one who did the research and found my first company to train on an extension method with. He’s given up his weeknights, weekends and financial savings so I can run fast and hard into this dream of mine. He’s put all of his long term goals on hold, so I could work on mine. Every single long night, wild idea and trip across the country he’s been the one saying telling me “Yes. Of course you can and you will”.

Love you so much Babe. Hope I made you proud.
