Meet Sasha Brown: Artist and Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sasha Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sasha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
There can be two different types of risk. One is defined in the dictionary as exposure to danger, harm, or loss. The other one you should always be open to, because it can provide possible positive consequences. Some people view risk as something to be feared or avoided, but in life I’ve learned that you cannot grow without taking any risks. It can present unexpected opportunities for personal success. We have to constantly step out of our comfort zone or else we’d be stagnant. My family and I have moved cities a few times, because of job promotions, and it has had the most positive impact on our lives. Every time we take the risk to start a new life in a new city, we grow personally and closer together. We get to experience other cultures in a different environment, while staying optimistic. I would not be who I am if I did not run with life’s challenges and embrace them. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? Definitely..

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve had an interest in art since I was a child and have taken classes all throughout my life. Between being a wife and mother now, I find free time to still make pieces. Most of the artwork I make I use acrylic and water color paint as well as ink. A lot of it is produced on canvas, which is my favorite to use. I’ve tried many different kinds of medium throughout the years and I always go back to acrylic paint. The pieces I’m most proud of are those I give to others as gifts. Naturally, I’m a giver, so I put a lot of passion and love into the artwork I make for people. The journey has not been easy and I’ve learned to be more open minded to trying new techniques and learning from others. Sometimes I think my artwork needs to look and be a certain way, but I remind myself that I cannot grow if I do not try new things. Even if I fail, I can learn from it and try again to be better.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Fort Worth and all it has to offer. It has changed for the better over the years and there is always something going on. My family and I love being outdoors and exploring new places and Fort Worth has endless options. First, Sundance Square and the Water Gardens are always fun to explore and walk around. Whether you’re going out as a family or on a date night, it’s never dull. Main Street Arts Festival has and will always be my favorite event that goes on. I love seeing and buying other people’s artwork. Lost Oak Winery located in Burleson is one of my favorite wineries. The environment is relaxing and they have events that take place every week. Plus, their wine is worth the drive. Lastly, the Kimball Art Museum and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History are worth checking out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my husband who has always encouraged and supported me from day one. He has always been passionate about anything he pursues in life and naturally that pours into me. Secondly, our close group of friends who we live life with deserves every bit of recognition. Having a support system within our community is so important to us. When they say it takes a village, it really does. Find your tribe to do life together.
