We had the good fortune of connecting with SARRA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SARRA, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Pursuing a career in the arts was never a question for me. Growing up in a musical family, performing and creating came very naturally to me. It hasn’t always been easy staying the course but I’ve never wanted to do anything else with my life but music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a singer-songwriter and have been performing since I was 6 years old. I’ve been on American Idol, sung on stage with Grammy Award-winning artists, been featured on Grammy Award-winning albums, and have created music that I’m so proud of. It’s been an incredible journey full of ups and downs to get to where I am today with my career but the challenges have shaped me not only as an artist but as a person as well. Pushing through my own insecurities and listening to my own voice really helped me through some of my darkest times. It’s wonderful when other people connect with your music, but I create first and foremost to fill my own soul. I’m passionate about finding new ways to express myself and deepening my connection with the words that I put down on paper. I love the honesty that writing provides me. I find an immense amount of peace and freedom when I’m singing and creating.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m definitely more of a home-body so if I had a friend or family member visiting the first thing I would do is cook them a wonderful meal at home. My favorite thing to do is enjoy a good meal and a glass of wine by the chiminea outside on my patio. The next best thing to cooking at home is sitting out on the patio of one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants, drinking a margarita, and digging into some chips and queso! Dallas has amazing food, parks, and museums so there’s always something fun to do in the city!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s hard to choose one person to single out. I’ve had so many people along the way who have encouraged and shaped the way I view music and my place in it. Cari Cole and Josh Goode are two people who dramatically changed my life when I started working with them.
