Meet Sara Loving | Speech Language Pathologist & Assistive Technology Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Loving and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Many people think that speech therapists work on correcting articulation errors or improving grammar. However, what most people don’t realize is that our field is incredibly broad—we also help individuals communicate using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) devices, support clients with feeding and swallowing challenges, and even work with cognitive-communication skills like memory, attention, and problem-solving. Our role is about empowering people of all ages to connect, express themselves, and participate fully in their daily lives—whether that’s through spoken words, gestures, technology, or a combination of all three.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Chatterbox is a therapy center rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a voice and a place to belong. What sets us apart is our unique focus on assistive technology—specifically, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)—and our outside-the-box approach to therapy and education. Our mission is to advocate for meaningful connections through the use of AAC and to provide individualized, impactful services that truly meet the needs of each client.
We’re proud to offer therapy services that go beyond traditional models. At the heart of our work is the belief that communication is connection. We use technology not as a tool, but as a bridge to help individuals express themselves and engage with the world around them. We’re constantly learning, adapting, and growing alongside technological advances to ensure our clients receive the most effective support possible. We have been excited to offer traditional weekly therapy sessions, as well as, moving to the intensive model to help make impacts in various opportunities.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the legacy our team is building within the DFW community. We’ve worked hard to raise awareness of AAC and its role in improving the lives of individuals with complex communication needs. Our therapists are not only highly trained, but deeply passionate about what they do—and that shows in the impact we’re making every day.
Chatterbox is also home to the Chatterbox Academy; a unique educational environment designed specifically for individuals who use AAC. Our students use their devices throughout the day while engaging in individualized curriculum tailored to their communication needs and developmental goals. Unlike traditional school settings, our Academy allows students to thrive in an environment built entirely around their strengths.
But the journey here hasn’t been easy. Like many therapists-turned-business-owners, I didn’t attend business school—and many lessons were learned the hard way. Around our second year, we began facing the growing pains of expansion: more employees, more systems, more challenges. We adopted the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), after reading the book Traction, to help build structure and align our team with a shared vision. However, we soon realized that in order to truly move forward, we needed more support. That’s when we brought in our incredible implementer, Amanda Matthews, to help refine and strengthen our processes.
Leadership, I’ve learned, is a skill that must be constantly honed. Company culture is the heartbeat of any business, and building a strong, sustainable one requires clarity, vision, and intention. While many of the tasks required to grow a company may not be in my natural comfort zone, I’ve come to understand how critical they are for long-term success.
What I want the world to know is this: Chatterbox is more than a therapy center. It’s a place where families feel at home, where children are seen and celebrated, and where communication is at the core of everything we do. We’re building a place of connection and impact—one voice at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: Welcome to DFW
We’d kick off the trip with brunch at Haywire—you can’t beat the Texas comfort food and rooftop vibes. Afterward, we’d take a stroll through the Shops at Legacy for some window shopping and people-watching. For a pick-me-up, we’d swing by Accession Coffee—one of my favorite spots for a cozy drink and chat. Dinner that night would be at HG Supply with rooftop seating and skyline views, followed by a walk on the nearby trails to wind down.
Day 2: Fort Worth
We’d head out to the Fort Worth Stockyards to experience that classic Texas vibe—walking the historic streets, catching the cattle drive, and maybe checking out some live country music. For lunch, we’d make our way over to The Woodshed Smokehouse—a laid-back spot with great BBQ and views of the Trinity River. In the afternoon, we’d do a bit of antique shopping and explore the area’s cool shops. Dinner would be at Lonesome Dove, Tim Love’s acclaimed restaurant, where we could indulge in some seriously amazing, creative Texas cuisine. Afterward, we’d grab a drink at a local bar or enjoy a stroll under the stars in the Stockyards.
Day 3: Dallas
This would be a full downtown adventure! We’d start at the Perot Museum—it’s hands-on, inspiring, and perfect for a fun, curiosity-filled morning. Afterward, we’d grab lunch at Sixty Vines in Uptown. It has such a relaxed, wine-country vibe and a fresh seasonal menu that always hits the spot. In the afternoon, we’d unwind at the Dallas Arboretum, walking through the gardens and enjoying views of White Rock Lake. On the way home, we’d swing by HTeaO for a refreshing tea (their flavor options are so good), then end the evening with a cozy night in and maybe a movie or puzzle.
Day 4: The Colony
Time to kick back a little! We’d start our day browsing Half Price Books—I could get lost in there for hours. Then head to Grandscape in The Colony for some next-level fun at Immersive Gamebox or The Puttery. It’s such a cool spot for interactive games and a good time. Dinner would be something simple but delicious—maybe pizza or tacos—and we’d hang out at home, catching up like old times.
Day 5: Plano
We’d start the day with some shopping at Legacy West or Shops at Legacy. For lunch, we’d head to Eataly at NorthPark to enjoy delicious Italian food and explore the market.
Day 6: Addison
We’d hit up some of our favorite antique shops—hunting for treasures is always better with a friend. Grab coffee from Accession Coffee to sip along the way. We’d maybe stop at a local farmers market, then come home to relax a bit. Dinner could be a casual night grilling outside or trying a new local spot we’ve been meaning to check out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to a few incredibly important people who have been with me through every step of this journey. First and foremost, my husband Luke and our girls—thank you for your endless support, patience, and grace as I’ve navigated the learning curve of being a mom, a wife, and a business owner all at once.
We’ve also been blessed with amazing family support. Our parents have been there anytime we needed help—whether it was cleaning, painting, moving, or watching the kids so we could get things done. Their love and willingness to step in has meant everything.
Within Chatterbox, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some truly instrumental people. Kandace, Nicki, and Gabi have not only helped hold things together behind the scenes, but have also been incredible advocates for what Chatterbox stands for. Their hearts are fully in the work we do, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
And most importantly, a huge thank you goes to the families and clients we serve. They’ve believed in us, supported us, and encouraged us throughout the years. They are the true champions of Chatterbox and remain the reason we do what we do every single day.
