Meet Sara Baumann | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Baumann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, how do you think about risk?
Risk has been a pivotal part of my journey. While working as an occupational therapist, I felt a pull to pursue my passion for art more seriously, this led me to take a significant leap. I created a collection of artworks and decided to make them available on the blockchain. It was a new frontier for me, and I wasn’t sure how it would pan out. But I knew that if I didn’t take the risk, I would always wonder “what if.” That collection eventually sold out, and it became the catalyst for my transition into becoming a full-time artist.
One of the boldest moves I made during that time was reaching out to Gary Vaynerchuk. He had been posting about supporting artists, so I took a chance and let him know I had works available. To my surprise, he became my first art collector, and that opened doors for me that I could never have anticipated. I now have Sia, Brie Larson, and Steve Aoki amongst my collectors and have had the opportunity to make artworks for Mastercard, Instagram, Coinbase, and more.
Taking that risk changed everything for me and set me on the path I’m on today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of my journey—both personal and professional. What sets me apart is the fusion of bold, expressive visuals with a deep sense of empowerment, particularly for women. I’m most proud of my Women and Weapons collection, which challenges the double standards between men and women through striking imagery that pushes boundaries and sparks conversation. The project was designed to celebrate strength and femininity, and it has since grown into a movement that advocates for women’s empowerment through both art and education. A percentage of our profits even goes toward supporting the Malala Fund, with over $100,000 donated so far, an effort to make education a woman’s weapon.
It wasn’t an easy journey. Transitioning from my career as an occupational therapist to a full-time artist required a leap of faith. I spent long nights working on my art after full shifts at the hospital, minting my first NFT project in 2021, which sold out in under four hours. The financial independence that Web3 provided allowed me to chase my dream fully. Of course, there were plenty of challenges along the way—understanding the complexities of the NFT space, navigating a male-dominated industry, and pushing through moments of self-doubt. But through perseverance and a strong support system, including the encouragement of my husband and the support of early collectors like Gary Vaynerchuk, I was able to overcome those obstacles.
The key lesson I’ve learned is that risk and hard work go hand in hand. I took the risk of putting myself and my art out there, and it opened doors I never imagined. Now, I encourage others to embrace that same courage, to step into spaces where they might feel uncomfortable because that’s where true growth happens.
Ultimately, I want my brand and story to reflect boldness, bravery, and a commitment to doing good in the world. Whether it’s through my art, my advocacy for women, or my philanthropic efforts, I aim to leave a lasting positive impact on the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question! I love Dallas! I would immediately take my friend to see the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, and Green Family Art Foundation.
I would then bring them to Klyde Warren Park to lounge, people watch, and enjoy some fabulous food truck cuisine.
One of my favorite places to go for peace and inspiration is Lakeside Park in Highland Park. Bringing some sketchbooks, a picnic, and lounging in the grass would be a great way to enjoy our time.
I would of course have to take my friend on a tour of some of my favorite restaurants in Dallas as well. First would be Uchi or Uchiba, easily the most addictive food for me. Followed closely by Cafe Izmir off of Greenville Ave. Another date would certainly be at Mayor’s House By Selda in the Bishop Arts area.
Finally, we would have to do a shopping tour at some of my favorite spots – Tyler Kingston Mercantile, Favor The Kind, DLM, and Beatnik Fine Goods.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can easily give my shoutout to first, my husband, Jake Baumann. He and I have been together since middle school and he has always been so supportive of me becoming a full-time artist and pursuing my passion.
Second is Gary Vaynerchuk, he had faith in me and my artwork and became a massive part of my story. To this day he continues to be supportive of my career.
Third is my dear friend, Amber Vittoria who has been an incredible role model for me and someone who has helped me immensely with my transition from full-time Occupational Therapist to full-time artist.
