We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra & Araceli Barrientos & Sierra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandra & Araceli, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
From the beginning, our heart was to create something bigger than just a waxing studio, we wanted to build a space where women could feel safe, confident, and empowered. Both of us, Araceli and Sandra, have been through personal journeys that showed us how powerful it is when women support women. We knew we wanted to pour that into our business.

Starting our own business meant we could create a space that reflects our values: intentional care, community, and excellence. We wanted to redefine the self-care experience, not just focusing on outer beauty but encouraging inner strength, self-worth, and growth. As Latina women, it was also important for us to show other women that they can lead, build, and succeed in their own unique way. This business is not just about waxing, it’s about helping women feel seen, valued, and empowered every time they walk through our doors.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our business, The Skin & Body Co., is more than just a waxing studio. It’s a space rooted in purpose, community, and empowerment. We specialize in full body waxing and skincare, but what truly sets us apart is the intentional experience we offer. From the moment someone walks in, our goal is to make them feel seen, safe, and celebrated. We’re proud to be a Latina women-owned business that creates space for women to feel confident in their skin and leave with more than just a service. They leave with a boost of self-worth.

What we’re most proud of is the environment we’ve built. It’s one where real conversations happen, where women can be vulnerable, laugh, cry, and be reminded of their strength. We’re also proud of the growth we’ve experienced, from starting with a simple dream to now having a full team, launching our own wax product line, and mentoring others through education.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. We’ve faced financial challenges, burnout, self-doubt, and growing pains. But what’s helped us overcome every obstacle is our faith, our partnership, and our shared mission. We’ve learned that business isn’t just about profit. It’s about people. And when you lead with intention and stay true to your values, the right opportunities and community will align with you.

If there’s one thing we want the world to know about our story, it’s this: We are proof that you can start with a purpose, stay rooted in your “why,” and build something powerful. We’re here to empower women from the inside out, and we’re just getting started.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
our journey wouldn’t be what it is without the love, support, and presence of so many people (and One greater than us). First and foremost, we want to dedicate our shoutout to God. Without His guidance, grace, and purpose over our lives, none of this would be possible. He’s been our foundation through every high and low.

We also owe so much to our families, their sacrifices, encouragement, and constant belief in us have kept us going, even on the toughest days. We’re especially grateful for each other; being in business together as partners has been one of the biggest blessings. We’ve learned, grown, and leaned on each other through it all.

And of course, our loyal clients, we can’t thank them enough. They’ve trusted us, supported our vision, and helped build this community with us. Every woman who walks through our doors adds something special to our story. This journey is ours, but it’s also theirs.
