We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandi Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a child taking dance classes brought me joy. Life is not always easy and can be challenging. When you find something you love, are a passionate about, brings you joy follow it and you never know how it will be used in your life. Now I’m able to share the joy of dance with people around me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
With the encouragement of close friends telling me there was a need for a new dance studio in our community I decided to go for it! We wanted to open a place to care for people through dance. A place with qualified teachers and an excellent curriculum to ensure quality teaching. A place for the community. We opened the studio 6 months before the pandemic hit. We quickly pivoted to virtual classes so that kids could move and see their friends. We were able to keep our dancers engaged over a screen and put on a dance recital in the middle of the pandemic. It was not easy but we survived and are thriving. When you are your authentic self and follow what you believe you are made to do I truly believe you can bring joy in a time of need.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend came to town to Visit I would take them down town. It’s charming, quaint and like you stepped back in time. I would take them to lunch on the square, show them the cute shops around down town and possibly take them to one of Waxahachie’s beautiful parks. Our town does an amazing job taking care of our landscape and parks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As I mentioned earlier life isn’t alway easy. Finances didn’t always come easy but my mom always kept me in dance. We sacrificed and that sacrifice paid off. I then went on to become a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader after graduating High School and now get to share what I have learned in and through dance with others.
