We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Jezek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think back on the risks I’ve taken in my career and life I look at the times I’ve had to make decisions to help better my business. Whether that be try a different style, manage my time better, invest in something I think would be beneficial in growing my company. Sometimes it takes putting more of yourself out there in order to get the return you want. Making the best shoot possible and spending more than you’d like on the perfect frame for the piece of art. It’s all a risk. But in the end, I’d rather take the risk and see what happens.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Modern Abstract Face and Figure Artist. What sets me apart is I paint purely off of my experiences using bold colors. What first started off my career is I played around with the modern portraits for about a year then I dabbled in creating a full series inspired by overcoming adversity. I created single figures standing brave and tall. The series was called Not Alone. They were what set me apart from others. I love relating to people and encouraging them. I, myself battled addiction. So for me to show my hope in my art, it was an honor. I’m most proud that I followed my career in art in the midst of becoming a mom, and thats tough. But I had a fire in me that kept me going. I’m still a mother of three young boys, but I remember those long days when I was still finding myself. I’m proud of myself for choosing art every day. I’ve learned you have to work hard no matter what the circumstances are. You can’t listen to the excuses you build up in your mind. They really are just excuses holding you back. I want the world to know that you can look at my pieces and feel the joy that radiates from me in my studio into my art. As I plan carefully and skillfully each color and figure I hope that my art brings a smile to your face.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thursday – We would go to Utica Square and walk around the square, eat brunch at the Wild Fork, a fun little nook in Utica Square right on the corner. I’d encourage eating the Salmon Caesar Salad. We’d grab a coffee after. Enjoy the day shopping in the Square.
Friday – Go to the Gathering Place and enjoy the outdoors and parks. We would probably be with my kids because I am mostly with my children. We would pack snacks and catch up. Grab a quick bite at Chick-fil-A because that’s the easiest thing to do with kids LOL Evening – We would sit on the patio at R-Bar or Cafe Ole. Cafe Ole for the best queso and R-Bar for the ambiance.
Saturday – Start off early and grab a coffee then head to Philbrook Museum. Enjoy their new Monet exhibit as well as the tulips in the gardens. Grab a bite at the Brook, they have the best loaded fries. Walk around the shops there then head back, take a quick nap, grab dinner at this amazing Italian bistro owned by an Italian family and enjoy good food, talk and eat leftovers while watching a good movie later that evening.
Sunday – Attend Mass and fellowship with our community. Back to the Philbrook to let the kids run and play while we sip on a coffee…
Perfect long weekend. I have my spots to go to every week because I know it’s good food and good people. I love to eat well and spend time with my family.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My fellow creatives! I am so lucky to have such a rich group of friends on my social platforms. We encourage and help each other in so many ways. I couldn’t do it without them. I would love to name them all but it would be the longest list.
