We had the good fortune of connecting with Salester Gulley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salester, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a kid I was always good at math so at a very young age I decided I wanted to be an accountant. After college, I immediately went into Corporate America like an average adult. As I became experienced in my field, I noticed that a lot of my family and friends would come to me for advice or help dealing with their finances.

Starting my own business didn’t become apparent until tax season. It initially started with me just completing my own personal taxes yearly but then family and friends would always ask if I could do theirs as well. Thats when it all began! The fact that people trusted me with making decisions that heavily affected them gave me enough courage to want to expand outside of the people I knew and help others. Assisting clients with their tax planning and watching the results at year end or hosting webinars teaching how to manage credit is very rewarding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Gulley’s Financial Solutions LLC is a one stop shop for all of your accounting, bookkeeping, financial planning and tax preparation needs rather you are a business owner or just an individual. Gulley’s Financial Solutions LLC is not your ordinary financial planner. We always maintain industry standard measures to maximize the benefits of our clients. I am most proud of the feeling my clients have after an appointment. I make it my job that everyone leaves with more knowledge than they had before we interacted. I believe that knowledge and discipline plays an important factor in finances.

Entrepreneurship isn’t for the faint. I got to where I am at with determination, consistency and hard work. Once I set a goal for myself, I make the necessary steps to see it through. This requires me to continue learning. I spend a lot of time researching and studying to make sure I have all the knowledge required to be an expert in anything that I do.

The road hasn’t been an easy one. Work-Life balance has been the toughest area for me. As a small business, I like to make sure everyone’s experience is personal. This is what sets Gulley’s Financial Solutions LLC apart from the others. No business or individual can have the same level of financial problems. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love a good mix of pampering, adventurous, good music and I love good food so my go to spots would be relaxing like a spa day at one of the nice hotels downtown. We would also do a nice dinner somewhere with a view like the Monarch. We would probably do a brunch everyday at different spots in Uptown and Deep Elum. One day we would enjoy outside at Klyde Warren Park and ride on the fun scooters. This day we would probably stay in and cook at the AirBNB. I would go to Top Golf at night to chill and catch a vibe. Also painting inside the ball at Hyatt Regency would be on my to do list. Can’t forget eat dinner at XOXO and then hit the club that’s in the back.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The road would have definitely been a little harder without my husband, Kevie Gulley Jr. He has been the constant support that I need to deal with the tough challenges that comes from entrepreneurship. While in college, we became pregnant with our twin girls but he was determined that he would do all that he can for me to complete school and reach my dreams. As he worked Full-Time, I focused on completing college. Without my college degree, I wouldn’t have reach the level of success that I have today.

Fast forward over 15 years later, he is still the person I count on to assist me with the day to day duties of running a business. He is my personal photographer for all of my advertising needs, he is my assistant that gets food when I am working a lot of hours and more.
