We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Jesse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Ive recently finished a book titled Power of the Soul by John Holland. Ill start by saying, Ive never read a book like this IN MY LIFE! I came across this piece of work while browsing in a thrift store. The blue cover caught my attention then the title. Needless to say i was hooked from the foreword!! Working behind the chair in the salon all day, my main focus has been… getting the hair color right, delivering and achieving client expectations, and of course staying on time! The beauty industry began to look only skin deep to me. The cuts, color, and extensions are so much fun and the final look gives unspeakable satisfaction (for me at least). So it seems once i began reading Power of the Soul, I wasnt only looking for how to satisfy/help these people physically, but on a spiritual and soul level.

My whole outlook changed and I realized we are all more than just a new hair color. And Id ask my inner self, “why is this soul visiting me today?” And it never failed, Id find myself in a ‘listening counseling session’. When I opened up to a “deeper” serving of the people, not only was I fulfilled, my clients would leave ‘lighter’, more pep in their step, as well as a sense of renewing inside that shows on the outside.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a licensed cosmetologist for 11 years now. Where i am today has come from many trial and error. I am the curious and explorative type, with a natural flair. Lol. Being open to success as well as lessons (“failures”) Im witness that everything that doesn’t necessarily go our way isn’t meant to hurt us, but its an eye opening, learning moment. Believing in the power that’s within you is a major key, not just education, but when you believe you can, I guarantee you, you will.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Id take my friend to one of the many lakes we have in and out of town. Uptown is one of my favorite happy places, anywhere there is a blast.

Perrys Steakhouse
Addison Cirlce (food and fellowship)
Hanging out downtown is also a cool time

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest shoutout is to God, for my journey in life, as well as the hindsight of how everything has added up and led to, Me now. My parents for never forcing me in any certain direction, but allowing me to walk in this life. And all my friends for trusting me with their hair!!!
