We had the good fortune of connecting with Rusty Bradford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rusty, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
It is always difficult to know if it is time to give up or keep going. Is the glass half full or half empty? Keeping a positive state of mind and enjoying the grind is the trick to success. When you fail or have set backs think of them as a learning experience. I have always thought of failure as delayed gratification. If you give up you are really giving up on yourself. Embrace the suck and get better. Keep the faith, never give up and always bet on yourself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rusty Bradford is an established Dallas photographer whose low-stress professional demeanor vividly contrasts to his edgy and explosive photographic style. Informed by his prolific experience with hundreds of photographers on countless locations around the country, Rusty has been able to cultivate a visual style that is uniquely his own. Rusty’s quest to develop his photographic style began soon after graduating from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara with a degree specializing in advertising photography and industrial scientific photography. Upon graduating in 2005, Rusty was fortunate enough to find employment with Playboy Inc. where he experienced first-hand the operational subtleties of a large multifaceted photographic studio environment. When his tenure ended, Rusty returned to Texas and served as a digital retoucher, studio manager and as a grip assistant on films and TV shows. He also worked as a photographer’s assistant then as a freelance photographer. His exposure to numerous photographic styles and techniques were invaluable and would serve as the foundation upon which he would develop his own unique photographic vision. In 2012, after spending years honing his technical and artistic skills, Rusty purposefully decided to open his own studio, Rusty Bradford Photography. Since its opening, the studio has garnered the respect and business of many local, national and international clients. Many creative departments in different business sectors, including national retail companies, electronic companies and the entertainment industry, find Rusty’s work to be dynamic and efficient. His unique style has also found favor with many interior designers and national catalog companies.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dallas has so many different entertainment options!! So hard to pick and really depends on the specific friend that is visiting but I would start with cocktails and bbq in east Dallas at Smoky Rose. Huge patio and it is close to white rock lake only a few minutes from downtown Dallas. Sports is always an option with so many epic sports franchises you could easily watch a football game at noon then be at an evening basketball game the same day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No doubt that my college education had the greatest impact on my career within the photography industry. The instructors were really amazing and with great resources and instructors you can have an amazing impact. They were able to shape me into the photographer that I am today. The ability to stay late and have one on one time with such talented and experienced photographers who had spent the last 30 years in the industry was invaluable.
