We had the good fortune of connecting with Russender Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Russender, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

I started my private practice to make diabetes and weight management practical, accessible, and realistic for the everyday person. My ability to translate the complex science of diabetes and lifestyle management into simple action steps has allowed me to help so many take control of their life and thrive while managing this disease.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My mission is to move people beyond just taking medication and chasing the fast progression of a disease like diabetes. From my upbringing, I totally understand the benefit of building generational health. I come from a long line centenarians who live an active life, eat healthful diets, and lead with servant hearts to uplift and empower others in their community. This experience pushed me to overcome the fear of being a different practictioner in dietetics. I created my practice around helping the whole person–through education, empowerment, practical roadmaps, and advocacy. My clients understand that when they work with me, they have a health coach/mentor for life. I learn about their family history, barriers, fears, and desired outcomes to build a healthy legacy beyond the basics.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

With being a registred dietitian and avid runner, I would create an exeperience that combines food and outdoor activity. Food and fitness offers the opportunity to learn and meet new people. We would hit up different restaurants that covered various cultures, local trails, and festivals of any kind.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would like to give thanks to my family, business and peer mentors for their encouragement and support. It certainly takes a village when you are breaking out of the normal routine of practice as a registered dietitian. There are so many unknowns and having people in your corner who believe in you makes it all the better.
