We had the good fortune of connecting with Royce Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Royce, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
When you run a business, you run into a plethora of different obstacles that can make or break a young business. Some of those obstacles are trivial, where are some are much more difficult. Nevertheless those obstacles carry lessons that will make you a more well-rounded business owner.

The most important lesson that I have learned along this journey is a willingness to adapt to what is currently in front of me, but staying true to who I am and what I stand for.

Anyone can do what they love when its easy to do so. its hard to stand in the face of adversity and still do what you love. It would be even harder to do what you love but those around you find no value in what you love. It can be easy to lose core values in the namesake of creating a profit, but over time those lack of values turn into a lack of morals. Then before you know it, your business is known for that lack of morality, and you are now known by that reputation.

Adapting while staying true is the most important lesson I’ve learned.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artwork is no different from the next artist. Anything I create can be replicated a million times over and done with more skill. What sets me apart is my willingness to seek out the worlds imperfections and capture them. Its easy to take a photo of a smiling family or a quick headshot. No one wants to take a photos of a crying wife at a funeral. or a child that hasn’t eaten for days. No one wants to take a headshot of a homeless man outside of his tent or the moment a team realizes they aren’t going to win their championship. We all seem to be addicted to perfection and the softer light-hearted side of life, but those are all easy concepts to capture. Grit is so hard to find and capture. you will have an easier time trying to fit lightning in a bottle than to capture the essence of ugly. and imperfection. I have to remember this when I am creating; Artwork is meant to transfix another human being for a single moment and feel something in that instant. If I made someone feels something looking at my photographs , even if the feeling is uncomfortable. I have achieved my end goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly? Into the woods.

Living in Colorado, we are a amalgamation of the United States. the only thing to me that sets Colorado apart from the rest of the nation, would have to be the wild life and the wilderness. Its away from the tourist traps and just the general vibe of modernization, urbanization, and suburbanization that has been the tread of Colorado, majority of my life. I want my friends to be happy, and experience something different.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be speaking in clichés if I said I owed the world for creating who I am to this day. Although there is some truth to that.

It took years of having to work under rough conditions, doing mindless work and poor management in order for me to muster the courage to step out and start pursuits towards my own business. so id like to thank every terrible manager for every terrible job I was forced to do. It not only made me stronger, but its has made my pursuits more focused.

Id like to say thank you to my home of Erie, Colorado. I just started of taking photos of the local coffee shop which has grown and metastasized into this business that is allowing me to see the world in its entirety
