We had the good fortune of connecting with Roxanna Contreras Balderas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roxanna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always had a passion for music and the arts. Growing up I was in the yearbook club and in band. I started taking random pictures in high school using a camera I took from my older brother…So happy he never asked for it back. I would take pictures of everything from my band activities to my friends and random things.
I had an eye for things. I continued using the same camera through high-school and throughout college. I initially wanted to do nursing but that changed when I had my son. I knew that I didn’t want to miss any milestones. Talking to advisors, and the job I had. I was missing out on my child. I decided on a career change, went back to my roots and the love I had for the arts.
Luckily, I had a supportive husband who got me a good camera. My son became my muse and fuel I needed to do photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like what sets me apart from other photographers is that I love helping and have huge passion for what I do. I want to provide exceptional service to my moms, business owners. Help them grow their business or take unforgettable memories.

I am so excited about what’s coming from my small business, AVision. I will soon open up my own little studio.
I hope to collab and help other photographers start their own journey.
Take wonderful photos in my studio of families and individuals.

I am here where I am, thanks to family, friends and clients for supporting me through this journey. I feel like it hasn’t always been easy.
There were time I doubted myself and my abilities. Imposter syndrome is real.
And well, just balancing life was hard.
I felt like I was all over the place at times.
It was definitely challenging but I knew I could do it.
I constantly remind myself I can do it. Luckily, I have a great support system that keeps me going and pushing me.
It has got easier along the way.

A few lessons, I have learned is to take your time and don’t rush your art.
Communication is key when working with your clients. Don’t get discouraged or frustrated when things don’t go the way you expect them too. You are capable of anything and everything you set your mind to but it takes time.

I want the world to know that Avision is brand that wants other brands to succeed. I am here to help in anyway possible. I want to elevate your personal brand’s visual identity today. I want to create stunning visuals that represent their unique story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Bside coffee shop,
They have an incredible coffee and the vibe is immaculate.
Possibly visit the Reunion tower and Margaret hunt bridge for the views of the city. Visit Dallas Contemporary to see some art of amazing artists.
End our day to get some good tacos from Cesar’s Tacos or Fitos in Oak Cliff.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and son, without them I wouldn’t be where I am. They give the fuel I need to keep going. My little family join me when I have sessions. My hubby unloads and does all the heavy lifting…When I started my son was so little and we would take all his snacks and a few toys..get to the location and get to work. Now my son is a little bit older, now he brings his own snack, toys, his little camera, he says, “Ready to take Pictures.” My heart melted the first time he said that. I just love that I get to this with my little family and be together.
I don’t get to miss a thing with my family.
