We had the good fortune of connecting with Roseanna Burnam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roseanna, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Ultimately what makes me happy is helping PUP parents and their PUPs live in harmony. I love bridging the gap of frustration and understanding. I am so happy when I can dispel the old uniformed myths of dog training. Creating a positive way to help a dog understand versus force them to do anything is beyond rewarding. It also brings me joy when I am able to help the human side feel confident in the way they have learned to train their own dog. My job is full of joy and I am very lucky to continue to learn how to help my clients speak dog. I am also really happy that I am in this progressive and humane side of training that keeps growing and growing. Id be happiest when positive training methods get more attention to the general public. I love when people give up punishment based methods of training and see what amazing results can be found backed by science. We have a long way to go in this field and I am so happy to be a part of the evolution of positive training methods.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a dog trainer that trains positively with reinforcement. This means I choose to train humanely on all spectrums. This is so important to me to be able to train this way and educate the public on how effective these methods are. I am where I am today based on referrals mostly. That is the biggest compliment. For the most part my journey has been easy which I am very thankful for. I have learned many lessons along the way. As trainers we strive to be problem solvers. There is a very important human element to what I do and sometimes the human needs are greater than the pet they have. I have learned to really listen to the whole picture and that is the best way to aid in these situations. I also have learned early on it is more than okay to not have all the answers and a network of experience is so crucial. I will never take on something I cannot handle for profit. What matters most to me is giving my clients and inquiries the best help I possibly can. I want to be of the best service I can and get people to the best fit possible for their needs. I think this is an important moral to have in this field. Knowledge is always expanding. If i was in the same place that I was a year ago knowledge wise, I would be doing everyone I help a disservice.

What I would love the world to know about my brand and story is that there is a way to train humane. My methods that I practice help me be a better person and communicator. It is so freeing to be able to feel good about the way I train and I want pet parents to feel that peace as well. Owning a dog shouldn’t be a dictatorship. The respect given is given back by unconditional love when the pieces of a dog/owner relationship work. I am there for you to navigate if the environment works. I never want to force a situation that is just wrong and I will advocate for my clients both human and dog. I want what is best for everyone and through my experience I continue to receive I am thrilled to be a small or large part of these relationships.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Karen Deeds of Canine Connection will always be someone I look up to and admire. Meeting her was such an exciting time for me as a trainer. She sees the scary stuff and takes on challenges like no one I have ever seen. She is dedicated and has a heart of gold and I love the things she stands for. She is the reason I have expanded much of my knowledge and network as a positive trainer and I am so happy to be a part of DFW Positive Trainers Network.

One trainer I admire from afar is Susan Garrett. She has an incredible podcast and YouTube presence which gives so much good information for free. She is such an inspiration for all the things she has experienced in her many years of dog training. Her journey along with Karen’s transformed from balanced training to the positive methods I practice today. I am always so intrigued by the experienced pioneers of the dog training world and admire them for always searching for better methods. This is a moral I stand by is that its important to never stop learning.

This field can be tough at times and to have the endurance to keep going can be a struggle. I admire the way Karen has navigated heartbreaking situations and keeps going because it truly is her calling. I will always cherish the friendship I am lucky to have with her,
